Charleston mayor's son charged with heroin possession

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The son of Charleston Mayor Danny Jones has been arrested on a charge of heroin possession.

Zachary Francis Jones, 21, of Bays Road in Charleston, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with one misdemeanor count of simple possession of heroin.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Patrolman O.B. Morris of the Charleston Police Department went to the Oakwood Terrace apartment complex Monday after numerous complaints about drug activity in the area.

Morris knocked on the door of the residence at 955 Leslie Road, and Zachary Jones answered the door, according to the complaint.

The officer told Jones about the complaints of drug activity in the area and asked if there was anything illegal in the apartment. Jones allegedly said there was something in the kitchen. His girlfriend, Amber Carr, led Morris into the kitchen and handed him a plate with 10 individual lines on it, according to the complaint.

Carr allegedly said the substance was heroin, and Jones said it was his and he had bought it the previous day, according to the complaint.

After Jones was arrested, Magistrate Julie Yeager arraigned him and he was released on a $10,000 surety or 10 percent cash bond.
