This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
A legislative audit says the Division of Natural Resources needs to develop a better way to control damage done by West Virginia's deer population.

The audit says the agency needs to improve the way it collects and measures damage to crops and forests.

It also needs to use deer-vehicle accident information to determine how hunting and other methods can used to control the state's herd.

There are an estimated one million deer in the state and auditors noted West Virginia leads the nation in the number of deer-vehicle collisions.

Tuesday's audit says the agency should launch studies and set performance standards for controlling the herd.

DNR Director Frank Jezioro says the DNR is in the process of updating its deer management plan.

Easy. Just get yourself a good accountant. They're used to handling dough and bucks...

My father saw several deer being chased by coyotes today. Coyotes are becoming a problem to farmers with cattle (yep, some actually don't have cattle), and I suspect one killed our outdoor cat last year. Bobcats are also becoming quite the problem here. My father just lost his beloved cat due to a bobcat attack (he suspects). I won't go into details, but the cat died horribly with an infection.

I usually have from eight to eleven deer go through my yard every day. Without an electric fence, I can't have a garden, and the neighbors are way too close for my 30-06 to be used.

We noted a dramatic drop-off in the deer kill in our county. Perhaps warmer weather at the beginning of the season, but we suspect some non-native predatory animals were a significant factor.

Just lengthen the season a bit, perhaps also allowing for ONE DAY of Sunday hunting, and see what happens.

We live in the Huntington city limits 5 minutes from downtown and there is a herd of 10-12 deer that is around most of the year - we usually see them in groups of 2-4 at a time.

Saw these 2 just before Christmas 4 houses down the street from us.
