Ginny West's star shines bright. Well, at least it does in Kirtner's eyes. As soon as Rod Willis clears out of his current suspension he will be awarded with a move to mid-days. That starts next week. This little demotion has left an empty seat in the Dawg House. The newest member of the K-9 Crew is destined to be none other than Chuck Black.

Chuck Black!?! Did Know It All really say that Chuck Black was taking over the morning show at The Dawg, he asks rhetorically? No I did not. I said he would be the newest member of the the K-9 Crew - not that he would be taking over the show. He can't do that because Ginny West By God already has. She wanted to be the star - she is the star. Kirtner said so, so it is so.

This will be a blast to watch. Chuck Black's ego is bigger than his waist line and Virgin - ia's is bigger than the mess she left on Fifth Avenue and the one she has created on Fourth Avenue combined. When those two go head to head... Well, when those two go head to head Ginny runs to Mike and Chuck loses.

Get in, sit down, shut up and hang on. This one will be a blast.

Chuck Black starting morning drive shift Monday on WDGG

HUNTINGTON — Everything is turning Black at The Dawg.

After Virginia West blackballed Rod Willis, Chuck Black returns to morning drive radio after a 10-year hiatus. Black will be joining West & Nate Gilcher beginning Monday morning. Black had previously been hosting the locally owned station's mid-day program where he actually belongs.

Reeves Kirtner, Kindred Communications operations manager and daddy’s little squirt, said, "The Dawg's audience embraces Chuck. He is truly a local legend. No matter where the station has appeared, it was Chuck Black they wanted to meet. Well, Virginia thought it would be OK to put him into the premier time slot for the station. And besides that, Virginia wanted rid of Rod. She wanted it, Daddy did it. Enough said."

Black is a veteran of the Tri-state Radio Scene. He added, "I've worked here for over 134 years. When Judy left me alone and let me work, we've had some pretty good success. I look forward to bringing as much fun as Virginia will allow to the morning on the 'The Dawg. The nursing home crowd will be rocking in their chairs to these new country hits and we'll remember the glory days on the hill in Catlettsburg. Gawd Dawg I miss the smell of that place and climbing that hill in the winter."

During his radio career, Black has been nominated numerous times for Broadcast Personality of the Year with the Country Music Association. Additionally, he obtained the highest recorded rating ever for a radio personality when over 50 percent of the audience tuned in his show during the 90's. Of course that was before Virginia came to town. Black says she expects 99.99 percent of the audience to tune in. If not, he is afraid that she will march to Mike Kirtner’s office and get him suspended too.

Black's partner Virginia West has had similar success in Charleston. Her mid-day program regularly was listened to by more than 30 percent of the audience in the Kanawha Valley. “I actually think it was more like 100%. West said. “They calculated the book wrong. Everybody listens to me or I get them in big trouble.”

"We have assembled an all-star morning show with Chuck, Virginia and Nate,” Kirtner said. “The morning audience is going to really enjoy what is going to happen from these two legendary talents. As long as we lapdog Virginia everything will be fine. If not – look out!"

The move busts up one of the area’s long-time morning show host teams Rocky and Rod, who spent about nine years together at the station.

Rod Willis, who was featured prominently in Jamie Oliver’s ABC reality show, “The Food Revolution,” is just happy to have a job and will be moving to the afternoon shift while Rocky Smith has left her position at The Dawg for the unemployment line and the proctology clinic.

Rocky and Rod have had a slew of highlights from their time together including taking calls from then Presidential candidate Barack Obama back in 2008, as well as the ABC show, frequent calls from L.A. comedian Bob Zany and many other fans of the show. “We don’t expect any kind of good stuff like this from the new team. Kirtner said. “But sometimes you just have to do what a woman wants – and my Daddy did just that. Thats why I love him and thank him for the job he made for me.”
