I've liked "Dogs Days Are Over" ever since I heard it in 2009 on BBC Radio via Sirius. The first place I heard it on Nashville radio was on AAA Lightning 100 (WRLT); more recently I heard it played on CHR 107.5 the River (WRVW). It could have been big on alternative radio had CHR not picked up on it so fast (at least relative to other radio formats), though hard rock type stations wouldn't likely have been inclined to play it. I thought it had hit potential the first time I heard it, and judging from the push it is receiving, it's already well on its way there.

Florence and the Machine represents everything that sucks about contemporary music. Their popularity boggles the mind.

No real instruments, no real talent, standard uninteresting hipster jazzy chick voice, all show, no grit. Ugh.

Haven't these front-women heard Aretha Franklin? Mahalia Jackson? When did Regina Spektor become the model for how one should sing? Where's the heart, where's the soul? So damn boring...I'm looking right at you Zooey Deschanel...

What happened to guitar? When did face-melting go out of style? Are there no more badasses left in our effeminate, tight-jeaned music world? All chords, no shred makes me want to cry. Remember the blues? Remember rock? Remember straight heat? Remember moxie?

What happened? America used to dominate the music scene. Now we're just some sort of neutered pop factory that cranks out two piece garbage bands with a computer and a microphone. Have we no shame?

I'm not sure what my point is, but Florence and the Machine is garbage. Their terribleness has been so concretely established, that you can confidently use them to judge people....

From this point forward, I'm going to dedicate my life to resurrecting Freddie King. If I can just figure out how to reanimate his lifeless corpse, he could finally achieve his ultimate destiny...The Savior Of American Music.

And look at me: I HATE Contemporary music. And this is the best thing that I have heard all year.

Why?

Because it sounds like Melanie replaced Robert Plant in Led Zeppelin. And that's a winning combination, friends...
