Gary "Music" Miller

Just heard a promo for Gary "Music" Miller on WYHY 1080, "Coming Soon" he said. Sounds like some things are starting to shake in Cannonsburg?

I think Gary will be doing it the way it should be done, old school live. No voice tracking, no programmed music from a server, just letting the big hits roll as they may. Will be good to hear real radio again.

VERY nice, and I will be listening... Given the new format of 1080, shifting towards the 70's and 80's, I really want to hear Gary play what he wants to play.

Any word on if the station will be streaming online? I'd like to give it a listen.

Cruising through Ashland, I just heard the official five day forecast on this station...

And it started with Friday, then Saturday, then today (totally wrong by now: numerous showers and thunderstorms), then to Monday and Tuesday...

Stuff like this makes a station look really bad. My traveling companion said to me: If they are still running three day old weather, why would I want to advertise on that station or listen to anything they have to say?

Pretty good question, actually.

Heard Charlie Dunlap live on WYHY at noon today. With Rhino, et all, AM1080 is almost a WIRO alumni reunion. All they need is the Mole and a return of the "Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters".

It's amazing how we are having a rebirth of music on AM around here, with 1080 and 1520.

Well, not so amazing when you see how bad FM radio here sucks.

I don't recall if Gary ever told me he worked at WIRO. I do remember him talking about working for Dick Martin though.

STILL running a five day forecast from Friday today, Sunday.

Sigh, this does not give the station credibility. NO weather forecast is better than one that is already 48 hours old.

Sheesh.

And now, on Labor Day, they are STILL running Friday's five day forecast.

Why bother?

Along with Charlie Dunlap giving last Wednesday's local news, including the fact the Greenup County Fair is going on (it was over Saturday night) and Cabell County is removing swing sets (it isn't...NOW).

And it makes the station look really, really bad.

From what you have reported ,sounds like someone needs to update weather and news. I find it interesting that radio people think M-F. If the station is on air it needs to be attended,at least updated.

From what's being reported, it sounds like someone needs to dump the news and weather all together. It is completely unnecessary on a voice-tracked AM.

Station sounds better. Music fuller, you can hear the words and music.Gary sounds more comfortable.Streaming would be great.Saturday needs a local sound...maybe a best of Gary two hours. This will be interesting to see how the format plays out.Hope they hold on to this format.A couple of FM players would like this format...one is in downtown Ashland. The other, well let us say it is not an A but a ...fill in.

My guess is a very tight budget. This station is STILL running a five day weather forecast from Friday all weekend long...they'd be better off with no weather forecast than one that is from almost three days ago on Sunday nights...

Set him up at home with a headset and one of those new-fangled Comrex units. It'll sound as good as anything else out there :)
