Yeah, it might not be true HD, but it's about friggin' time ANY station takes the lead to upgrade to the 21st century.
I know if I was new to the area and didn't know any better, I'd probably choose the aesthetic features of a station that looks modern over ANY of the WVMH stations that look much smaller market than they really are.
Then again, when you have big money like Cox backing you, even a small market station can look top notch.

So just how many people do you think are moving into the Wheeling-Stubenville area? Isn't the market losing people? Viewers have their established habits...and while it's a nice upgrade, doubt it will make much of a dent in the ratings war. Watching the promo kinda makes me wonder why Cox didn't spend a little more and go HD.Mr. Jones wrote:Yeah, it might not be true HD, but it's about friggin' time ANY station takes the lead to upgrade to the 21st century.

Does WTOV have their own radar? Use cox Pittsburgh station owned radar?
Or just claim nearest Nexrad as their own?
A million watts ERP is easy to obtain in pulsed radar service.

Re: WTOV News 16:9 Set
Channel 9 already looked a 1000 times better than WTRF, and has had a better pool of reporters for some time. They have been broadcasting their news in 16x9 for over a year now. It was a little odd looking when you could see off to the sides of the set. They upgraded their "virtual weather lab" over the summer and starting claiming to have 4 radar sites, looks to be Pittsburgh, Columbus Cleveland and another one from the south. Channel 7 on the other had looks terrible, the lighting seems very dim and the audio always sounds muffled. This may have been fine on standard def televisions but when you see it on a higher quality TV it is absolutely horrible looking. WTOV has been an all together better production for the past decade and it is nice to see that Cox is willing to spend money in this market. Based on some of the moves that have taken place I think they use WTOV has a testing ground for anchors and reporters before moving them to bigger markets.

WTOV could broadcast the news from an outhouse and it still would look better than WTRF.
Anyone know why WTOV's Jackie Cain up and left with little or no notice?
