If ever there was something the US desperately needed to import, this is it.

It would cause riots here. (And that would just be the Union.)

There would be only a handfull of teachers left....and that's at the college level. There would be even fewer in southern WV. Then there would be no one to teach them "You put the snuff here", or how to make a bong out of a toilet paper roll, or go steal granny's pills....there worth $5 each !!!
Heaven forbid !!

A good teacher is hard to find and worth their weight in gold. The other 99% should go back on welfare.

Re: A number of us are in real trouble if this becomes common
If a retired teacher has been out of a classroom for even just a few years, he or she would barely recognize today's classroom environment. Standards mandated by those that haven't been in a classroom for perhaps decades are causing anxiety for those dedicated to their craft, making us second-guess what we do. I know it's no different than anyone else's job. It's just wearisome to constantly be a 'punching bag.'
As the article states, "There are 'bad apples' in every profession." I would GLADLY give up tenure IF an objective standard could be developed that would weed out the truly untrainable and incompetent. There ARE incompetent teachers and aides, who have even-higher levels of protection. Only THEN would we get the respect we deserve.
I know we're public servants, but we're always reminded about the latter part. I know teachers that, due to special education requirements, create DOZENS of lesson plans. The paperwork they complete is formidable, as are their responsibilities. Teaching is not a job; it's higher than a profession...it's a CALLING. Those that can DO...THEN TEACH IT.
This rant is now over. We now go back to our regularly-scheduled programming.

I was thinking of more than just the teaching profession.
Think of all the totally worthless people in TV or Radio.

In todays world, everything in life has a "minimum requirement". Teaching should be no different. There are still places in WV however that just having a "Teaching Certificate" qualifys you to be GOD. And if you are related to the right 'people' you can act as a "God". Sad but true.
Pass the Skoal and Bud please!
There just arn't many who have "the calling". In my life I have known only a handfull of good teachers and every one of them loved their job and wern't doing it "for the money". AND even though poor teachers are and will continue to be a problem....stupid, ignorant, dumass parents are the real problem in teaching children. School is seen as a babysitter and don't bother em' with concerns about their child.Teaching is not a job; it's higher than a profession...it's a CALLING. Those that can DO...THEN TEACH IT.
