WCHS radio question

Does anyone know if WCHS is looking for a co-host for their 3pm - 6pm radio show?

Haven't heard anything but John Raese artfully stepped around the question when I asked about 3 weeks ago. Of course I understand he's busy right now. WCHS needs a host, get rid of Johnson for an individual that prepares, knows how to engage individuals in discussion and is interested in doing more than eating the time. Johnson may be a great guy, I don't know him but do listen occasionally and have never been impressed with his talk show acumen. Just saying myself.

Thanks for your insider info Dave but what I'm trying to do is open a discussion about talk radio in Charleston. Maybe this isn't a discussion board? Or maybe you don't believe in dialogue or discussion?

Everyone knows that Raese pretty much stays out of local programming, and I would think that Johnson would kill to get a co-host given the opportunity. He's (as you said) really grasping at straws to kill the time. Posing "shooting fish in a barrel" questions to get callers. The rest is fluff and stuff.

But where do you find co-hosts? Most people have full time jobs and others simply aren't professional enough (or smart enough) to be a co-host. Co hosts (especially in this case) is practically a part time job. Hard to fill that position for sure.

For the right money, Tom Roten is almost certainly available (and won't have to worry about the methadone clinic, the Huntington occupation or sales tax or bugs in the studio!). I'd say anything over about seven bucks an hour would be appropriate! Tee hee.

I too think Jerry would be great but he has seemed to indicate he's done with talk radio. You have to have a call or job posting to see what's out there. Is it written in stone the person must have broadcast air experience? Everyone starts somewhere. If WCHS is interested in having a vibrant talk show they should take the step to see who's out there. If WCHS is happy with what they have in the afternoon then that's fine it's their station and decision. I do think there is potential in the staff already there but I understand you move someone up and you risk two positions, the one they left and the new one. I've had sucesses and failures in doing that but have always felt obligated to give employees a shot at new challenges. I appreciate that I have been offered advancement and new challenges. Old enough now not to worry but I do like to listen to lively local (WV) talk radio.
