SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a fire at the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire was reported just before 9:00 a.m. Friday.
911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the building has collapsed. Firefighters are still trying to get the fire under control.
A Sissonville Volunteer Firefighter says the department's trucks were still inside the fire house when the fire started.
Several local fire departments have arrived on scene to help put the flames out.
No injuries have been reported.
Sissonville Drive is closed in the area.
Emergency Crews at the scene will not let anyone near the area because the heat of the fire is causing the department's oxygen tanks to explode.
We have a crew near the scene. Keep clicking on WSAZ.com for the very latest information.
Damn, next week is fire prevention week too.

There are no "oxygen tanks" in firehouses, only air tanks that firefighters use to breath air during fires. These are non flammable, although they ARE under pressure and could explode. If however there was a rescue truck in the house, there "might" be a very small oxygen tank on the truck.
I think you will find this fire to be suspicious by the time the smoke clears...

I have to ask the same question considering the "Gag-zette" is reporting that nearby highway workers heard a couple of explosions. Oxygen tanks don't just "explode."genlock wrote:Seriously, were there problems at the VFD?
FWIW, October is national fire prevention month.

Story aired where the fire chief was interviewed. He suggested the explosions were from containers of gasoline stored there that they used to power portable equipment (probably generators for portable pumps or ventilation fans).
A five gallon can of gasoline, especially if partially full, would make a nice bang if hot enough.

We drove by what is left of the fire station early today, going to the Sissonville Band Competition. The WSAZ vehicle was there. This is very sad. Hopefully this was not deliberate. Paden City's firehouse burned about 35 years ago. I often used that when teaching irony.
