Broadcaster arrested after driving on revoked license

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston radio talk show host has been arrested again.

Officials at South Central Regional Jail said Sunday that Michael J. Agnello, 58, of Charleston was arrested early Sunday morning. Agnello was charged with driving on a license revoked for driving under the influence.

Cpl. J.J. Garbin of the Nitro Police Department was on patrol about 1:45 a.m. Sunday when he caught sight of a white Jeep Cherokee speeding on Center Street in Nitro. The officer checked the SUV's speed with his radar device and found Agnello to be traveling at 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.

Garbin pulled the vehicle over after it turned onto First Avenue and found Agnello alone inside. The officer checked his driver's license with DMV records and saw that it was revoked for DUI effective September 2009.

Agnello was arrested for driving under the influence in July 2009 when officers saw his vehicle swerving in and out of traffic on Interstate 64 in Dunbar, nearly striking several other cars. He told the officer when he was pulled over that "he'd had a few," and a breath test later revealed his blood alcohol content to be .173, more than twice the legal limit. Agnello was charged with aggravated DUI for that incident.

Just two months ago, he was arrested after a fight with his girlfriend, Amy Dorsey of Sutton, at a home on Bigley Avenue. According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court, Agnello grabbed Dorsey by the arms and threw her to the floor several times on June 23. The woman had reddish marks on the back of her arms and fresh bruises on her left hip and leg.

Dorsey was arrested that same day and charged with DUI when she crashed into a Charleston Fire Department SUV in the Go-Mart parking lot on Bigley Avenue. The woman told officers she'd had some wine before getting behind the wheel.

Agnello is one of the hosts of 58Live on WCHS radio, a popular talk radio program although his photograph no longer appears on the radio station's website.

Agnello is being held at South Central Regional Jail on $10,000 cash-only bond.

Just to add some clarity to the muddled reporting, the reason why this man's picture is not on the website is because he is no longer employed by the WV Radio Corporation.

Maybe it would add some clarity if WV Radio would come out and say he's no longer employed. These corporate giants play all ends against the middle, afraid anything they say will reflect negative, when the truth is always the best option.

It's pretty easy to criticize big companies when you're anonymous and don't have to deal with privacy laws and lawyers. But if this reporter actually thought someone who wasn't on the air for 2-months was still working for us, then he/she probably should have called and asked someone for a comment on the story. I can't say a lot, but I can say, "Mike Agnello is no longer employed by West Virginia Radio Corporation".

I take it you're someone from the company that wishes to be anomyous or you would of identified yourself by name and at least a title. It may be a let down to your ego but I don't know or know of Dave Harmon. I stand by my, just tell the truth that a person no longer is employed, and I think your privacy laws and lawyers is bull.

West Virginia Radio Corporation General Manager Michael Buxser said Agnello has not been employed by the company since July.
