Bye Bye Famous Dave's

Remember that I used to say that if I didn't like a restaurant... it would fail? Almost every one has so far. Some last much longer than they should, simply because they have more money behind them. This is the case with Famous Dave's. The national chain is going under, so the local owners will re-name it. The people here in WV take a little longer than others to know what's a bad deal sometimes. So they'll re-name it... and it might last a while longer, but unless DRASTIC changes are made, this too will go under.......


The owners of Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que, despite filing for bankruptcy, will keep the restaurant open. The restaurant, which will remain open at both Barboursville and South Charleston locations, will be renamed and

Despite filing for bankruptcy, the owners of Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que at Southridge will keep the restaurant open for rib-hungry patrons. But customers will see a new name on the sign and some new items on the menu.

Almost Heaven Ribs, the Barboursville company that operated the Famous Dave's franchises in South Charleston and Barboursville, filed for bankruptcy Feb. 2 in federal court. A final hearing on that case is scheduled for June 23.

General Manager Rick Pack said, however, that the restaurants aren't closing

In fact, they're expanding - their menu, at least.

Pack said, "We're not closing. We've switched from Famous Dave's to Almost Heaven Steak and Ribs. We're changing the sign. There are banners up now with the West Virginia on them."

Who's next in line? In no particular order it is:

Buffalo Wild Wings. 10 years too late to start here. Eating the throw away parts of the chicken at premium prices wont cut it here for long.

Red Lobster. Looks like a fish restaurant but the only people who eat there have never eaten in a real seafood place.

Fridays Haven't figured out why they are still around.

Shoneys. On their last legs.... again.

I never understood the point behind Buffalo Wild Wings. If I want great wings, I make my own wings.

Red Lobster.... It is on the same level of being a seafood restaurant as Olive Garden is an Italian restaurant.

If you are talking about the Friday's in Cross Lanes, I have no clue that restaurant has stayed open in the last 10 years it was terrible when they opened and it never got any better. Which also goes for the Applebees at South Ridge which I have not eaten a meal there since 2001 because everything I ordered was bad. The Kanawha City Applebees is wonderful.

Shoneys.... IMO, they did not have a leg to stand on in 2003 and I do not see how that chain could get any worse without going bankrupt.

My 21-year-old daughter loves Buffalo Wild Wings, or "B-Dubs" as she calls it. I've never been there, so I can't make a call.

Gotta agree with how Shoney's has escaped annihilation. Other than a pretty good breakfast bar, (and it's been years since going to one), nothing for me there.

It was an extremely lack luster and boring breakfast bar in Charlotte, NC that convinced me that Shoney's should be on death watch. It is almost impossible to mess up breakfast which is why it is served 24/7 at North Jersey and Philly style diners in this area (as well as Denny's nationwide.)
