200 Grand for 20 riders? You have GOT to be kidding me

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

200 Grand for 20 riders? You have GOT to be kidding me

Post by CoolBreeze »

Each transit authority would need almost $100,000 per year to keep 15 to 20 riders.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Nearly a year and a half after the inception of a bus route linking Charleston and Huntington, the number of passengers has exceeded initial expectations.

Doug Hartley, assistant general manager for KRT, said use of the bus line has "steadily increased" since its inception and has far exceeded initial projections, which expected 15 people to ride the bus during the morning trip and 15 during the evening.

For the first part of 2010, Hartley said, each trip has seen an average of more than 20 passengers per trip, with numbers slightly higher in the evening.

WHAT??

But now the future of the route, paid for mostly by grant monies so far, is uncertain.

However, the grant that provided for the project's startup costs and has funded it for three years may no longer be an option.

Officials said it is unlikely the service will be eligible to receive the grant again, after it runs out in January 2012.

That means more funding will be needed to keep the bus service running.

Government can piss that much away in less than a second.
Observe the local TTA buses and you will see that they are mostly empty.
Sometimes completely empty.
Mass transit is needed by the left as a way we can get to work when gas is $7/gallon.

There's your funding...

Economically blackmailing as many people as possible into mass transit will bring in more money.

But what these city-dwelling pinheads don't realize is that the rural poor will suffer tremendously in order to save Mother Earth. They won't benefit from mass transit but would still be paying $7 per gallon for their old V-8 bondo buggies.
