Bill Gates: White kids not eligible for my scholarships

Microsoft gazillionaire-turned-philanthropist Bill Gates has apparently decided to award Gates Millennium Scholarships only to Americans of non-European descent. He did so back in January but the word is just slowly getting around.

It’s not obvious to me why a poor white kid from Appalachia is any less deserving than an equally talented poor black kid from Compton. But, then again, it’s not my billions funding the program.

I'm not sure where you are getting that from unless it's that whole thing the right wing machine likes to say about affirmative action or any breaks given to minorities being racist. It has the potential to be condescending in certain cases, but it isn't bigotry.

Windows Vista (ie: Windows ME Mark II) was the death of Microsoft. Windows 7 is a lot better, but it's years too late. We are all stuck cleaning viruses off of Windows XP machines all day. Viruses that happen thanks to the fact that Internet Exploiter IS the UI, one of the dumbest design decisions of all time. Oh, and the fact that people are stupid and will click on anything.

I'm clearly missing something, here. I'm missing why it's of such polarizing importance about what Gates does with his bajillions of dollars? None of us is in any position to speak on his behalf, so all of our input (my own included) is speculation at best.

Mr. Gates can, I'm sure, justify his actions--even though he need not. Whether those justifications are amenable to others is irrelevant. right?

Glad you've joined the fold. The only thing I really miss is Adobe Audition, which I run through Crossover for quick jobs and bootcamp when I need to be on it for a while.

Vista is a bloated ram hog.

XP has lived well beyond its originally intended shelf life, and will likely be around a few more years on older machines.

I got my iPhone in January and it has never crashed. Found a few buggy apps, though.

I would be tempted go with Mac if they were not so expensive. I also don't like Apple's war on Flash. Why do they feel the need to shut all of their users out of Farmville?
