Either a public option with strict regulation, or a complete dismantling of the for-profit system in favor of a not-for profit single payer system is whats best for America...

Dude. There is much more to life than working for health insurance. I would love to see things change where I could do the work that I want to do instead of hanging on to the 9-5 routine at a major corporation to have health insurance.

The best words of advice that I got when I was 24 years old was that we are meant to work so we can live. We were never meant to live to work and now we live to work to have health insurance. Something went wrong and finally politicians are correcting the problems created (or never addressed) in the years following WWII.

National insurance pools instead of state by state?

Tort reform?

Catastrophic coverage?

Possibly a "sliding scale" rebate program for people who make under a certain amount?

Single payer and making it a non profit or atleast not-for profit thing...

Contrary to the talking points, a total government take over was NEVER proposed..

If they dont agree to strict regulation as well as a public option, then the Gov SHOULD take it over..

The current system is a disaster...

No one should die because they dont have health insurance or because they have a pre existing condition..

Yet tens of thousands do every year...

Time to end the death for profit system that we currently have..

You're right. We are already paying for health care through the VA, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Your insurance premiums also pay for the "charity" of millions of ER visits per year by the uninsured, who cannot be turned away by law.

I never said that the current system is fine just the way it is. But there are other options to explore as well.

Then, there is this little problem of greatly increased federal spending with simultaneously diminishing federal revenue, because there are less people employed and paying taxes. Increasing taxes only exasperates this problem, and the Federal Reserve can only print so much money before the dollar becomes worthless.

The only way this can be paid for is to backload the deficits onto future generations -- namely, the Gen-Xers and younger.

Even the CBO has stated that the current health care plan actually lowers the deficit..

Funny how we never saw Republicans whine about a deficit when Bush II was giving tax breaks to the rich in 2001 and again in 2003 during an unnecessary war that we took out loans from China to pay for thus blowing up the deficit in the first place...
