Steve Rhinehart programmed Oldies station on 1080 AM

1080 WYHY, broadcasting from Cannonsburg, Ky (Ashland area) Seems to be a decent idea, station sounds pretty good, they are playing traditional oldies. Seem to be playing off the WWHY heritage.

Seems odd that music seems to be creeping back to AM at the same time talk seems to be moving to FM.

Glad to hear Rhino on the air again.

Is 1110am still running i64 country? When I am in the area visiting my daughter I enjoy listening to the station. I think 1110 is another well kept secret.

1080 sounds pretty good (for AM) and the signal is surprisingly good for 1800 watts.

I grew up with that music as much as my own (80's) because of my parents. And I do still like it. It is also interesting to see music creeping back to the AM dial in the Tri-State, after basically becoming extinct except for the "redneck gospel" format, in the form of 1520 going all 80's, and this. Hell, if WCMI 1340 would go back to "Music of your life" I'd pretty much have my whole childhood AM experience back. WCMI introduced me to Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, etc, which I also really like.

I don't know how much money Big River Radio has, but they would probably benefit big time if they could acquire a FM translator in Huntington for 1080... This is the format 97.1 should STILL be playing.

I also like that they are using the calls as their main identifier... "The Big 1080 WYHY". This evokes both the "Big 80" (WKEE) and WWHY, which are stations that anyone who grew up with the music will both remember and connect with this.

THAT is how you run an oldies station. What the hell is "B 97.1" to either my parents or myself? I remember WIRO. So do my parents. WIRO played their music when they were kids. Played mine when I was. Wouldn't "The Big I, 97FM, WIRO" be a better station name than "B97?"

I believe the one missing element to THE BIG 1080 WYHY,a live morning show. Interaction with the listeners,weather,traffic updates.Current happenings etc.

Even a 7am to 9am time slot would really make THE BIG 1080 have a local feel.

I must point out that you also disagreed with me telling you that you needed to bring back WCMI-FM All else being equal, nothing else has really changed, yet they beat the pants off of pseudo-WAMX (WAMX is 94FM to me) Yes I am an old fart.

I will admit though that your afternoon show on 92.7 was better.

Tri-State radio icon, Charlie Dunlap was there with Rhino to launch this format change to True Oldies. Informed sources have said that the management of 1080 did approach Dunlap to do a live morning show, but unfortunately, the two parties could not come to terms.

They should at least put Rhino on in the mornings. He was the morning man at WIRO when I was waiting for them to sign on at 6 AM to tell me that "Ironton Schools ARE OPEN!"

NEVER question the power that is the WCMI call letters.

They are the oldest call letters in continuous use in Kentucky. Also older than any callsign in WV. Only WLW in Ohio is older as far as I can tell of our 3 state Tri-State.

Turned on 1080 yesterday afternoon..no audio just dead carrier..I wonder how long it was like that..

Rhino must have been on a panty raid instead of monitoring the station...It's not first time I've heard
that on Sundays.

The off air on the weekends seems to be a problem. I noticed last year and early this year it was not happening. Someone must have had an ear

on the station. Especially on the weekends.

Its because they are too cheap to hire any high school students to babysit it all weekend
