WSAZ AIRS NON-DELAYED AUDIO

Post by lastone »

During an up date on the mine explosion minutes ago, Tim Irr aired an imposter on the phone live without a delay. The converstaion ended with "the air shaft needs to be as big as Howard Sterns cock". Audio was pulled but too late. Tim made excuses....

Probably not Tim Irr's decision on whether to use the delay or not.
More than likely rested with the audio operator.
WSAZ may not even have a audio delay or it might be tied up
fixing a delay somewhere else.

I'm conflicted. The mine explosion is a tragedy and not funny obviously. But I did giggle a little imagining Tim Irr trying to deflect after "cock" made it on air.

In the midst of breaking news, try to imagine the news room vs control room blame game now brewing.
Control room blaming news for not using the delay and news room trying to figure out what a delay actually is.
There will be those present that might be immune from blame stirring the pot, trying to elevate the tension.
Storms on the way, National championship basketball game, Mine disaster, Howard's cock, all in one night.

No money for delays.

Gray Television reported revenues of $77.5 million in the fourth quarter, down 18% from the same quarter the year before. Local ad revenue was up 5%, national ad revenue was down 1%, and Internet revenue was flat.

Gray reported that political advertising was down 82% in the quarter, while retransmission consent revenue was $3.7 million-a 346% bump over the same quarter in 2008.

Gray also tallied $600,000 in the quarter for consulting with seven Young Broadcasting stations.

No delay in this day and time is ill advised but this happened because of poor News judgement or complete lack of procedures. YOU NEED TO KNOW WHOM YOU ARE SPEAKING WITH! Never trust, verify. Breaking news is not an excuse for poor journalism. Tim should be pretty upset with someone?

Captain Janks has been pranking breaking news stories and disasters for the last 20 years.

He preys on live broadcasts when the networks are desperate for a scoop and let anyone who calls on the air.

YouTube clip already removed. I really don't understand how that could have happened. Anyone who has spent more than 15 minutes in news in WV should know that there are three people who speak for Massey....Don Blankenship, Jeff Gillenwater and Troy Andes. That's it. If it didn't come from one of those three it ain't Massey.

There are two talking points that the national news media has been pushing: Yesterday started with an emphases on the "NON UNION MINE" and today they are playing-up the angle that Don Blankenship "DOES NOT BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING".

Both of these very important issues are apparently at the very heart of the mine explosion.

As far as the YouTube being removed, there's lots of other places to put it up.
