Kansas church members to picket in Charleston

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Kansas church members to picket in Charleston

Post by CoolBreeze »

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Pickets from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., plan to visit Charleston early next month.

According to photographs on the group's Web site -- www.GodHatesFags.com -- pickets typically carry signs reading: "God Hates You," "God Hates The USA," "You're Going to Hell," "God Hates Fags" and "God Hates Fag Enablers."

Westboro Baptist Church is a small sect, most of whose members come from a few local families, including the family of the Rev. Fred W. Phelps Sr., the church's minister.

Founded in November 1955, the WBC has no affiliation with any other Baptist organization.

When they visit Charleston on April 8, the group's pickets plan to visit the state Capitol and the University of Charleston.

During the next three days, Westboro pickets will march in front of Charleston Catholic High School, Congregation B'nai Jacob, Temple Israel and Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral.

Rabbi Victor Urecki, of Congregation B'nai Jacob, said, "That same week they are coming, we are having a bar mitzvah. We will have people who are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, atheist, gay and straight. It is a celebration of love and diversity.

"We work with the YWCA to 'Stand Against Hate.' That is the Charleston experience," said Urecki, whose family has lived in Charleston for 25 years.

"They have every right to picket, however odious their thoughts," Urecki added. "That is the beauty of our country. They are an incredibly infinitesimal group of people. Here in Charleston, we have love and incredible affection for one another."

Monsignor Edward Sadie, of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, said, "I will be ready for them. I don't want them on our private property, but I can't keep them off the sidewalk.

"I can always say prayers of exorcism. I will say the prayer of exorcism in Latin."

If everyone would just ignore these freaks, maybe they will eventually go away.

Or be raptured by Buddha.

Much like flies to a turd, these people are attracted to the media.
Make it clear to the media that they should not cover this event.
No coverage, no event.

The local media is the key.
No interviews with the Kansas people, no interviews with the people opposing Kansas people.
If they re not mentioned at all, they will go away. Now, If they managed to get their tires slashed and beat up too
and the cops ignored them, It would be perfect.

These bastards picketed in front of Boyd County High School in 2002 because of the school's policy to not burn gay students at the stake.

I was hoping to see these idiots standing in the middle of the school's driveway so I could take my Wrangler (with the big iron front bumper) through the middle of the protesters and watch them scatter like ants from an anthill flooded by a 3 year old child having fun at the expense of the helpless insects. Or watch them scatter like those mountain huggers 10 years ago on Kanawha Terrace when they were blocking my way out of town by standing in at the intersection by the WKLC studios with "Gorelingo" signs and carrying crosses like they were going to crucify a Jewish carpenter and a couple of theives.

Obviously, the protesters read this board and the sorry sacks of shit stood behind the guardrail at the intersection of Midland Trail and St. Rt. 180 with their signs.

Damn.

Not sure your analogy of the media to turds is necessarily the way I'd go, genlock, but I know what you're saying! 8)

Perhaps it would be wise, however, to heed the advice of "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" in this case. Any group that is so egregiously schizoid that they can use the word "God" in the same sentence with the word "hate" must be watched, and watched closely. Personally, I feel that in time this woeful excuse for a church will implode (remember Jim Jones and his gang?). Until that time, they must be kept under close scrutiny so as to not get any more out of hand than they already are.

My question is when do they have time to go to church and worship God if all they do is protest? Either way I'm planning to Rickroll them.

I hope you guys realize this is a fundraising trip for them. They have a history of coming to town, provoking those with no self control, then suing them. That's how they finance their "church".

My question is... how do they continue to stay out of the hospital... or morgue?

They're also heading to Virginia Tech to "celebrate" the anniversary of the shooting on April 16th.

I had Shirley Phelps Roper on my morning show last month. This crazy bitch is the spokeswoman for these nuts, and the daughter of Fred Phelps who is the leader. She is the one you always see on TV saying kill the fags, and God bless 9/11. I decided not to do the interview live due to the level of crazy I was dealing with. I can say one thing for sure, this woman is smart. She is an attorney, she knows how to piss you off to the point where you want to kill her with your bare hands (or go out to the car and get your gun), but know you can't because that's what she wants. After talking with her for about fifteen minutes (thank god this was a phoner), I hung up on her. I had great audio, but realized exactly what you guys said in the previous posts. These people feed on media attention. Even though I had promoted the fact she was going to be on the show, I refused to air the interview, and went on with my day. No way was I going to give one second to these evil people. No other word can describe them, they are pure evil. I don't give a shit if you believe in God, but there is a devil, I talked to her.

Well, the chicken shit bastards did not show up at Temple University this past week when the media in Philadelphia refused to air the story of their protest.

Of course, they may have realized that Temple is in the middle of the ghetto and they could have been slain by anyone and the Philadelphia Police would have written off the crime as everyday drug violence.

I moonlight as a writer for Kanawha Valley Live (not to be confused with Putnam Live). We put up video today of the WBC rally and counter-protest at the Capitol today.
