WDTV

Is WDTV getting a new set? Noticed that all weekend they were using the Wings Of Faith area with very bright studio lighting. Perhaps to go with an HD broadcast?

WDTV 5 ---- IS---- Getting a new set... Tonight at the end of the newscast, they had an overhead camera shoot of the new studio set... You could see the corner of the current news desk in the lower right corner. Looks fairly well completed, so probably a few more days, or early next week I would imagine.

Remember that all 16:9 tv is not HDTV. WOWK tried with a stretched version of their regular cast in 16:9 and it looked awful.
WSAZ uses some video from Hazard or Lexington that has to be squished to WSAZ standard 4:3 and, while not awful, just looks funny.
If someone goes real, native HDTV on a newscast, I would expect a promotion barrage for a considerable time. The cameras are not
the only expense as switchers, grafx, wx grafx, editing, storage , playback and news gathering stuff have to be upgraded also.
A prime consideration would be the complexions of the primary news anchors. HDTV can be unkind to the elderly or poorly made-up
news stars.

WDTV has lost four of its on air staff in the past month. At this pace, there won't be anybody to sit at the new set.

New set premiered tonight. Definitely better lighting and vibrant colors in the background. New feature has a TV panel located at the bottom of the desk that could easily say WDTV 5 or Fox 10. Hmmmmm
