Earthquake in West Virginia
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ ... 10uiam.php
Says Man but actually between Sarah Ann and Rita.
Looks from Google earth like you could get there by going up Chauncey hollow or up #4 hollow.
A couple of ridges east of the slate dump/garbage dump for #15 mine.
No report on any spilled beer.

I am sure this earthquake had nothing to do with the 6 or 7 active mine sites within a few miles of the epicenter.

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
Old parts of #15, Stirratt and whatever the number of Crystal Block coal & Coke might have run thru there.
The old West Virginia coal and coke, Omar #4 was a huge mine in it's day. Maybe some of it was up there.
I have no knowledge of the mines around Rich Creek/Rita.

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
The road was to go from Man to Logan but was de-funded in the middle of Man bridge several years ago.
Completion date is now sometime in 3000, should Robert live that long. Much like the interstate from Beckly to Williamson.

it was de-funded, but there is still work going on there that was paid for before funding was yanked..... thats roads mostly finished up through the man area, its mainy a few bridges needing to be built between logan and man to connect it all up now....

I don't think Sen Rockefeller will get us the money to complete it.
I assume the four-lanes will converge at Gilbert. (52/119/corridor and rte 10)
The Omar beltway.

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
a couple of those bridges are pretty impressive considering the strange terrain some of them are spanning.... I was down that way last year and drove on a section of the completed highway....

Could there have been a chance that Mark H. went jogging near the epicenter?

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
Is this the "I-73" corridor that's been proposed for literally decades? Or a different road all together?lastone wrote:Much like the interstate from Beckly to Williamson.
Well, one thing's for sure: nobody reading this will live long enough to see its completion...
Unless we score a bunch of that Obama money.

Should a major earthquake strike West Va. and level a lot of buildings, would it decrease or increase their value?

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
The best thing to happen to the I-73 project was the enlightened decision to use strip mines as the base for the road.
That is going to save millions of dollarrs in the Williamson (wimson) and Matewan areas alone. Maybe jobs too.

Re: Earthquake in West Virginia
It would increase the property value but cost money to remove the mess. WV "mobile home" manufactures however, would have a field day!Bob Campbell wrote:Should a major earthquake strike West Va. and level a lot of buildings, would it decrease or increase their value?
