"Big Pharma" only knows what it sells. It at times must report this. If millions of dumbasses have been eating biscuits and gravy and hamburgers 4 or 5 times a week, NATURALLY they are most likely obese, have high cholesterol, and probably diabetes by now. NATURALLY the hot drugs will be cholesterol drugs, insulin, heart medication and the list goes on.

The problem in all of this is pointing fingers at everyone except the RIGHT ONE. Americans are now famous for blaming EVERYONE but themselves, so they want to blame Fast Food, sugar, cigarettes, booze, drugs and anything else for their problems. Even WORSE, is that they can now get big government on their side to take everything away from everyone for those non self disciplined BRATS that grew up getting everything they wanted from mommy & daddy just to keep them quiet! BUT NOBODY HELD THEM DOWN AND SHOVELED THIS STUFF INTO THEIR PIE HOLES!

You can ban shit till hell freezes over and that's NOT going to solve the problem. The problem is NOT Big Pharma or Fast Food or Cigarette makers or Jack Daniels. Since the dawn of man, the person with the most money has always been able to get better health care.

He's also been able to live in better houses, better neighborhoods, better foods, better work environments... better conditions all around. This is the normal state of things.

Knowing this, every person with ANY Drive at all has tried to get some of that lifestyle for themselves. It's only natural to want these better things. Problem is, some people actually WORK for them while others want it given to them as some "right". You have no "right" to take money out of MY pocket for YOUR health care, your food, your house or anything else. The Soviets tried this and we all see what happened.

Health care has suffered from one problem that raises costs, and is practically immune from discussion by our government: Lawyers. In my opinion, the greatest threat to affordable health care. We have too many Americans trying to win that Lawsuit Lottery these days, and lawyers are only happy to comply. It takes only ONE case for a lawyer to retire for life if he wants to. So now, doctors are running you through all sorts of expensive tests that "back in the day" you wouldn't have been forced to take. Now your hospital bill is sky high because the doctor has to protect himself from YOU and your lawyer. One tiny slip-up and he's in a court room, instead of in his office making money to pay those many thousands of dollars in malpractice insurance. ( yes.. you pay for that also so add THAT to your bill) The term "practicing medicine" is exactly that. It's one of the few jobs that you are never absolutely positive of the outcome. Ever heard of a guy "practicing radio announcing"? (Maybe in the Sticks)

So the one thing I cant understand is why liberals want to blame the high cost of health care on EVERYTHING except for the obvious. Believe it or not, back in the 50s ( I know, I was there) your parents could almost always pay CASH for the doctor visit and usually the hospital bill too. They might set-up a few payments but it wasn't overwhelming like today. A typical broken leg was about $350 total, doctor and hospital. That's what my mom paid for mine. A good TV set cost the same thing. Today, that broken leg is around twenty grand. But the nurses are making 3 to 4 times more. So is everyone else. The hospital staff has tripled. And these so called "non-profit" hospitals add millions of dollars worth of "improvements" ... which are often completely unnecessary. For example: When Charleston had 80,000 people, the hospitals were one fourth the physical size they are today. What happened? Whatever happened, YOU are paying for it all!

Bottom line: There are a LOT of reasons for the higher cost of health care, and beating the drum of "it's all so unfair!" will not help you or anyone else. Point fingers, but point them in the RIGHT direction for a change. And stop getting into my pockets.

i can cite my grandmother as living proof people without insurance can get care if needed, she's had to have 2 different bypass operations in the last 10 years, not to mention a couple extra trips for stints (think thats how its spelled). She's always had a minimum wage job and never had any type of health care until last year when she retired and started getting medicare...

The healthcare problem isn't related to insurance, it isnt related to care, its simply COST.... next time you take your kid to a doc, or go to one yourself, look at the breakdown of the bill, you're charged fee upon fee, and there's even a couple fees for getting billed. Yah that flu shot might cost 20 bucks, but theres a 40 dollar fee for the nurse giving you the shot, 10 dollars for another nurse to load the syringe (thats at CAMC). The hard blame literally lies with the docs and hospitals that charge insane rates for basic medical care.
