Some advertisements are just impossible to understand

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Some advertisements are just impossible to understand

Post by CoolBreeze »

In today's on-line editions of the Charleston Gazette and Daily Mail, there are the hundreds of rotating advertisements as usual. One however caught my eye. I've quickly glanced at this before over the last few days but today I actually saw it for the first time:

Now... can ANYONE explain the meaning of these ads? First, the same company is displaying both ads. One for car insurance, one for home finance. They use the same image of Jesus, or mass murderer (take your pick) in both. Why? Why would they use an image of your typical homeless bum in such ads?

Anyone? Anyone? And would YOU trust your insurance to such a cheesy business?

I saw that same face on FB this morning... in an ad. This one was for "Obama Encourages Dad's to Return To School!"

The first one is for Nationwide insurance, and it dovetails with their new tv ad campaign. They're introducing some character they're calling the greatest spokesperson ever ( or something like that). And in the spot I've seen they track him down to some cabin in the woods to ask him to come be their spokesperson. It's obviously the first of a series. Seems pretty weird to me.
The second may be related, but I don't see the Nationwide connection.
