How's that Global Warming working for ya?

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

YEP.. Since the rightwing/pro big corp crowd and their various blind supporters/lemmings now define Socialism as anything that interferes with or does not directly result in financial profit by a private corporation, I say Bring On Socialism!!!

yeah, a buddy of mine tried to throw this new stuff at me as if it was going to somehow back up his claims that global warming wasn't real or that it wasn't man made, sadly for him, as well as the folks on this board that still cling to those long exploded myths, the article also went on to say this: "Mr Harrabin told "Radio 4’s Today programme that, despite the controversies, there still appeared to be no fundamental flaws in the majority scientific view that climate change was largely man-made."

AGAIN: NO FLAWS IN THE MAJOR SCIENTIFIC VIEW THAT CLIMATE CHANGE WAS LARGELY MAN- MADE!!

I soo feel sorry for the Rightwingers when I slap them around with their own links..lol

Here's one nobody has brought up yet. The scientific fact that one volcano spews out more carbon in one day than all the cars on earth. Let's not even start with the sulpher and the coctail of other poisons flying into the atmosphere. Places like Iceland are just one big Hummer with some odd fish dishes and a government that protects ferries (the mythical ones, not the gay ones). Until we collect a shitload cork and all take a fieldtrip to the ring of fire to plug these frontdoors to hell, I'll keep my Hummer, and you Prius drivers can feel as good as you want, but it doesn't make two shits. The small amount of carbon being emitted from our cars compared to just a couple of the worlds thousands of volcanos and active hotspots is nothing but a guilt trip I refuse to be a part of. Is man helping things? Of course not, we're some wasteful fuckers. The problem is, blaming this stuff on nature, the sun, etc., doesn't get you grant money to study it! Blame it on people, it's news. News=Scary....Scary=$$$!

Shockley, why does this debate have to be political? Fox News and George Bush have about as much to do with my opinion on this matter as a big bag of goat dicks. Jesus dude, you can be a democrat and disagree with Al Gore, the guy is a tool in any party. I'm a democrat, so please don't Iraq, Fox, Bush slap me. I just think the planet is a lot bigger and more angry than the little people who live on it......for now.

P.S. I do a morning show, and I sure wish it would global warm up at 4:30 am, cause I'm freezing my nuts off here in MD. Miss you guys :D

"Shockley, why does this debate have to be political? Fox News and George Bush have about as much to do with my opinion on this matter as a big bag of goat dicks."

Really?? Then what sources are you using to form your opinion??? Where does your opinion come from?? How is it shaped?? Have you read peer reviewed articles on the subject that were authored by the world leading scientists???

1. The reason why this issue IS political is because: "the majority scientific view that climate change was largely man-made." Translation? The majority of the worlds top experts on the topic are in agreement!!!

2. It is the blow back from the Big Business community who are put in place to support the corporate bottom line, that convinces people that Climate Change is a myth...

3. this kind of ignoring the experts and spinning the truth is nothing new... When Reagan was wasting billions on SDI he did so even AFTER over 100 hundred of the worlds top scientists told him that it would never work..WHY??? The Military Industrial Complex!!! Defense Contractors were his constituancy and by God he was gonna make sure they got their Benjamins...

Now, since you do a morning show, in your show prep, make sure you dig real deep on your source material as it is related to climate chnage... Make sure that any sources/links that you use to back up your opinion is coming from academic sources (.edu) etc..

Make sure that it is peer reviewed..

Then you will begin to understand the corporate spin game, and how rediclous the rightwing media is when they try to use the fact that snow on the ground somehow translates to proof that Climate Change isnt real..

Sorry Shaffer, love ya, but the thing about volcanoes is not actually true.
Now, if the entire Pacific Ring of Fire were to erupt in the same year, or the super volcano under Yellowstone were to let go, it would seriously throw the climate out of kilter. That's what human emissions have done, thrown the eco-system out of balance.

Shaeffer is spot on.
Pinatubo disrupted the global weather patterns for years, but produced pretty sunsets.
Bob, your great problem now is that the warming alarmist scientists are trying to save what is
left of their scientific careers and reputations by back-tracking out of the situation.
Global warming is beginning to unwind and it's congregation is feeling uneasy.

1. I never said global warming was not real. I said were giving man too much credit for it. I would love to have the time to research every aspect of this, but sadly I work 65 hours a week. I'm sorry I can't post a link to the paperon volcanos I was talking about. I think I found the link through livescience.com. The math was quite simple, just grose tonnage of carbon output. You are correct about stating your sources. It sure does strengthen your credibility.

2. The morning show thing was a JOKE. That is what I do. Being funny has kept the lights on for over a decade, hell you were by my side for a lot of it. I'm not about to bring scientific debate in to replace dumbass of the day.

3. I'm sorry man, but I just don't believe that every scientist that happens to take notice of the massive size of the Earth as compared to the tiny amount of space it's human occupants happen to take up is in bed with the Republican party. All things being equal, the simplest explaination tends to be the correct one. A giant planet is going through another one of it's phases and is warming itself.

4. This is a real question, so don't snap at me. What is a top scientist? How do I know who's research to trust, and who is pulling an Al Gore. I'll agree with you that there are idiots on both sides of this one. In my opinion, it's the guy that gives us math. Math does not lie, as long as you factor in all variables, which Mr. Gore did not. You asked me how I formed my opinion, and I will give you a very honest answer. I base my opinion on the the planet I live on and what I know of it's history. I have no proof to back up my opinion, that is why it is my opinion. I look at like a court of law, when all 12jurors say us little people are tough enough to kick a planets ass, I'll believe it. Until then, in my book, it's still a little nuts.

Bob, I don't want to go round and round on this one (nice Ratt reference) but you're way off. If the entire Pacific ring of fire went off at once, every living thing on earth that didn't have razor sharp teeth, swim at least 500 feet below the oceans surface, and look like Steve Animal, would be dead as disco. I really think you may be underestimating our volcanic buddys. There was a reason they tossed virgins in those sulphur spewing bastards back in olden times. They can straight up wreck your day. Just ask Pompeii.

yeah, the Pacific Ring would pretty much ruin our day.

Here's a thing concerning top scientists though. NASA, I would hope most would agree, features some of the top scientists on the planet (yes, it IS rocket science). It is vital to their program to know intimately both the weather and climate of our planet. And they are the leaders in the field. They are also the leaders in climate change study. During the Bush administration, even though many were threatened with job loss and had their papers censored and edited by non-scientist members of the administration, they continued to publish and publicise the threat of human influenced climate change.
I know it's hard to get your head around this sometimes. It is fiendishly complex. But for 4 1/2 billion years the earth has built a balance among all its naturally occurring climate changing vectors. And climate change theory takes this into account. The one new factor in the last century and a half is humanity. And during this time, especially the last 50 years, change has accelerated and worsened. The studies done by scientists at NASA ( and NOAA too) have made predictions about climatic events that can be tested. If they don't happen, the theories will be changed. So far, they appear to be spot on.

Nice try Bob, but I think all of us with an IQ over retard ( I think that's 70 on the Bell Curve) know that all NASA cares about is keeping the aliens hidden. They want it to warm up because if green blood dips below 88 mph.....I mean degrees, they'll die.

I must apologise Schaffer, you are correct. Unfortunately for you, you will now have to be...uh...collected...by NASA and kept in a safe place until the planet warms enough to release the aliens from Area 51.
Just walk to your front door. They're waiting for you.

I find it interesting that a few years ago, "experts" were saying that because of "Global Warming(BS)" that there would be less snow. Why watch all these "experts" tell you.

Done watching?

Interesting isn't it? Cause of global warming(BS) there should be little to no snow. Yet now because of global warming(BS) there is a lot of snow? Can't have it both ways yardtards.

This debate is beyond ruined because it has been so highly politicized. We are at a stalemate. Nothing will change anytime soon.

If Obama is smart, he will drop cap & trade, and forget about trying use the EPA to ram this crap through. The American people are watching. He will pay dearly for it.

I can think of quite a few more important things the government should be trying to fix, instead of economically harming this country.

Ok, so you agree that it's real... That seperates you from the folks on this board that say that it isn't, so you now agree with me on this...

I would love to have the time to research every aspect of this, but sadly I work 65 hours a week.

Then why are you talking about this?? You make a statement, then you say that you don't have time to do your homework on it??

This took me an entire 3 seconds: "The warming of global climate is now unequivocal. There are many observations of increasing air and ocean
temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising sea levels. More specifically, eleven of the last twelve years (1995-2006) rank among the 12 warmest years ever recorded since global surface temperatures are measured (1850). Over the last 100 years (1906–2005), global temperature has increased by 0.74°C. Global sea level has risen by 17cm
during the 20th century, in part because of the melting of snow and ice from many mountains and in the polar regions. More regional changes have also been observed,
including changes in Arctic temperatures and ice, ocean salinity, wind patterns, droughts, precipitations, frequency of heat waves and intensity of tropical cyclones.
The warmth of the last half century is unusual in at least the previous 1300 years. The last time that the polarregions remained significantly warmer than now for a very
extended period (125 000 years ago), the sea level rose by 4 to 6 meters. Most of the increase in global temperature observed over the past fifty years is very likely due to human emissions of greenhouse gases. The global average temperature is expected to increase by about 0.2°C per decade over the next two decades. Continuing greenhouse gas emissions at or above current rates would cause a further increase in global temperatures and many other climatic changes during the 21st century. The best estimates for global temperature increase fromthe 1980s to the end of the 21st century range from 1.8°C to 4.0°C. Global average sea level is expected to rise by 18 to 59 cm by the end of the 21st century. Warming is expected to be greatest over land and at high northern latitudes and smallest over the Southern Ocean and parts of the North Atlantic Ocean. Other projected changes include
acidification of the oceans, reduced snow cover and sea ice, more frequent heat waves and heavy precipitation, more intense tropical cyclones, and slower oceanic
currents. Warming and sea level rise caused by human activities will continue for centuries, even if greenhouse gas concentrations were to be stabilized. If warming persists
over many centuries, it could lead to a complete melting of the Greenland Ice sheet, increasing global sea levels by about 7m"

3. I'm sorry man, but I just don't believe that every scientist that happens to take notice of the massive size of the Earth as compared to the tiny amount of space it's human occupants happen to take up is in bed with the Republican party.

That doesn't make any sense at all.. The FACT is however that there is a direct correlation between coporate interests and their lack of interest in changing their way of doing business of the facts behind Climate Change..

All things being equal, the simplest explaination tends to be the correct one. A giant planet is going through another one of it's phases and is warming itself.

And it has already been 100% proven beyond doubt that that is NOT the case..

4. This is a real question, so don't snap at me. What is a top scientist? How do I know who's research to trust, and who is pulling an Al Gore. A top scientist is someone that has actually studied the topic at hand, as spent their entire careers researching the topic, has written peer reviewed articles on the subject...

You asked me how I formed my opinion, and I will give you a very honest answer. I base my opinion on the the planet I live on and what I know of it's history.

Um... That't not enough sorry...
