Government Propaganda Radio Talk Show?
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Public Broadcasting may get into the talk radio business, the executive director of the state Educational Broadcasting Authority said Monday.
Dennis Adkins told members of the House Finance Committee that the authority may create a statewide talk radio show and is still pursuing plans to offer newsbreaks during public television programming.
"We're trying to expand to pick up an 18-to-49 demographic in various types of programming," Adkins said. "There are hundreds of channels and stations out there, and we're all competing for viewers and listeners in radio and TV."
Adkins said discussions have included launching a statewide talk radio program on West Virginia Public Radio to compete with national, statewide and local call-in shows.
He said there are several issues to work out, including finding a time-slot that would not put the public radio show in direct competition with popular national or local talk shows.
"We're trying to find the right time period for it," he said.

finding a time-slot that would not put the public radio show in direct competition with popular national or local talk shows. That would leave the long hairs upset?
I hold that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing. Thomas Jefferson, January 30, 1787.

Commented before I thought, my thought was the 9 am time slot fit the no competition rule and that Performance Today listeners were mostly long hairs or classical fans. Not the first stupid comment I've made.

Re: Government Propaganda Radio Talk Show?
It's currently pledge week at West Virginia Public Radio. More than once this week, the on-air beggars have referred to the corporate underwriters as sponsors...which, at least once upon a time, was taboo. Supposedly, they are not sponsors as they are not allowed to issue "calls to action" during their informative little spiels that precede or usually come at the end of programming. Uh huh. . .
They have also pointed out that you, the listener, get to decide how much to give. Really? How do I get to decide how much of my tax dollar goes to support them?
And this from one who listens to and is supportive of their product. I can only imagine how others feel.

Re: Government Propaganda Radio Talk Show?
There is no place for government broadcasts in a free society.
Government funded and run broadcasts=Government propaganda.
De-fund NPR, and eliminate the reserved noncomm frequencies. If that had been done, Air America might not have gone dark, since it not only had to compete against (highly profitable) conservative talk radio, it had to compete with fellow communists on multiple 50kW FM stations in each market...
