Howard Stern could have a job again with Clear Channel, says John Hogan – If.
Published on Friday, January 22, 2010
If, that is, Stern can return to terrestrial radio and present a show that’s compatible with FCC standards. John Hogan says (in a statement quoted by Business Week) that Clear Channel “would be the most logical company for [Stern] to optimize his exposure and financial return.” The radio division CEO says “We clearly have the willingness and the financial wherewithal to consider high-profile talent” – including Stern, should he be interested in leaving Sirius XM when his deal expires this December. Stern told Sirius XM colleague Bubba the Love Sponge on Thursday that he’s already got one offer (though “not a bona fide offer”) from a terrestrial radio operator. Stern was pulled off his Clear Channel-owned radio affiliates in 2004 in a bitter parting, at a time when the FCC and Congress were focused on alleged broadcast indecency.

That damn "compatible with FCC standards" line will trip him up.
Though it would be fun to hear Howard trashing Hogan and the Mays family on air.

It would be interesting is to see how many stations CC would be willing to blow up to accommodate him in certain markets, like CBS did at one point.
What would be good is that a CC deal would put him on in many more markets than he had with CBS.
What would suck is that nobody in WV would pick up his show for the second go-round, making him accessible only on the internet, if that.
So I hope he stays on Sirius.

Remember that Clear Channel abruptly dropped Howard Stern from all of its affiliates in February 2004 and, according to what Stern has said on-air, CC stiffed him on all of their contracts at that point.

Stern will never return to Clear Channel, NEVER. He may one day return to radio, but never CC

He's probably using this to extort more money from Sirius. Frankly I'd not mind seeing Sirius let him go. His show is as predictable as Dr. Laura or that guy who wants you to cut up your credit cards. It has no long term repeat listen value.
Frankly I don't see him getting the $$$ he thinks he's going to get anywhere. Not in this economy.
