Scorpions call it quits
German rock band Scorpions to end career
BERLIN (AP) -- The German rock band Scorpions is bringing down the curtain on a career spanning more than four decades.
The band, known for its early 1990s hit "Wind of Change" among others, said on its Web site Sunday that "we agree we have reached the end of the road."
It said it would end its career with a final album - "Sting In The Tail," to be released in March - and a tour that will start in Germany in May and take it across the world "over the next few years."
Guitarist Rudolf Schenker founded the band in Hannover in 1965. Singer Klaus Meine joined a few years later. Both men are 61.

Re: Scorpions call it quits
What sux about this is that they were starting to work with Uli John Roth again and were still a great live band.. Saw them a few years ago opening for Deep Purple, they were awesome..

I had no idea they'd been around since 1965. Jeez!

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Unlike The Who, they don't have two original members left, with a bunch of scab backing musicians.
Like The Who, they'll have at least 36 more "retirement" tours coming up.

Umm...
#1. I wouldn't call Rabbit Bundrick who has been in the band for over 30 years and was in the band Free before he joined The Who a scab... I also wouldn't call Zakk Starkey, who although is the son of Ringo, was actually taught how to play by Moon a scab either.. Pino on Bass??? Nobody could ever replace Entwistle so Pino is screwed regardless of the fact that he has played with Simon and Garfunkel among others..
#2. The Who dojng 36 retirement tours?? Actually, they only did one "Farewell Tour" which ended in 82, played 1 or two gigs til a full scale tour with a huge band for Tommy in 89 and then did the Quad tour in 96 and have gotten back together sporadically since then but never again called them "Farewell" tours..
#3. If Charlie Watts were to finally hang it up and the Stones were to go out on the road anyway would anyone complain that there are only two members of the Stones left then??? Doubt it..
#4. Do ya know how many band members are left from the original Scorpions lineup???
Only 1. Rudolf Schenker...
#5. And if ya REALLY wanna go deep with it, they weren't even the first european rock band to call themselves the Scorpions: http://diveintoyesterday.blogspot.com/2 ... -1966.html
I still love me some Scoropions.. The Tokyo tapes and World Wide Live are a must...

Shockley, you have way too much time on your hands. But just to add in, Pino was as close to being Entwhistle's personal choice as could have been. He played in Entwhistle's solo group and served as his tech for years.
And of course, the Sorpions served as the source of the most embarassing moment of my career, a story that will not be told here. Thank God the video never made it to youtube.

Yeah, love Uli Jon... Very underrated in terms of being a neoclassical pioneer.. He was doing in 74 what Malmsteen got hailed for a decade later.. Speedy's Coming from the Tokyo Tapes kicks ass.. U can pull up vid of him playing with them recently. He still sits in with them from time to time. Wish they would do an album with him again or a full scale tour...
