It's a Senate, Not a Hospice
Some people are upset that the Republicans are forcing poor Sen. Robert Byrd (Invalid-W.V.) to actually show up and vote on the healthcare bill. We hope they drag him bodily to every roll call vote until he kicks or retires.

It's not his fault that he is old, and sick, and falls down all the time. But the fact remains that he is old, and sick, and falls down all the time.

He needs to be there for every roll call for a bill of this magnitude. So do all of them.

Come one, guys! Robert Byrd deserves special consideration. In fact, he should be able to designate an appointee to vote on his behalf.

BS. If Byrd is not capable of carrying out his duties, he should leave the stage. Not like this is a sudden thing. Who was it, John C. Calhoun, who was carried into the Senate chamber on a stretcher to give his last oratory? If Byrd is no longer capable of making it to the Capitol Building, time to step down.
God Bless Us, Every One.

Yeah, they used to wheel in Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms every now and then.

I know, you can make fun of old Democrats, but not old Republicans. In his last years in the Senate Thurmond didn't know what city he was in, much less what building.genlock wrote:Wrong then, wrong now.Bob Campbell wrote:Yeah, they used to wheel in Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms every now and then.

No, Bob.
You misread my comment.
It was wrong to wheel in the near lifeless body of Strom Thurmond to the senate floor.
The same with Jesse Helms.
It is just as wrong to wheel in the man-corpse of Robert Byrd.
I hope you can understand what I wrote and what my meaning was.
