Re: Do You Let Your Dog Lick Your Face?
I call bull$hit on this. Almost all foods that we eat are full of bacteria. How do we make cheese, sour cream, yogurt, etc. without the use of bacteria that are not a normal part of our digestive system. Even jars of salsa contain more bacteria than one would imagine when tests that show that our mouths transfer less bacteria to the condiment when double dipping than what is already in the food. For those who subscribe to the belief that dogs' mouths are cleaner than ours (they aren't), here are a few things to consider:
* Most human mouths rarely come into contact with external bacteria.
Back in college, I remember the late Dr. Shoemaker tell us that when a puppy like a baby in the mouth, the puppy had a great chance of dying from the bacteria transferred from the baby than the baby dying from the puppy's germs. I think this article proves this point with dogs carrying similar (genetic) strains of E. Coli as their owner.
And why so many threads about subjects related to fecal matter and butt hygiene? I have heard of potty humor, but this is a bit of an extreme.

Well, most humans won't eat their own vomit or feces. Maybe Nunley, but not most humans.

The only reason you live day-to-day is the bacteria in your body producing anti-toxins for the crap you ingest in your day to day life.
I am not suggesting you eat dirt because you breathe enough dust in a day to kill you if it were not for your homie-bugs.
A good example of this is going to rural Mexico and you and your Mexican host drink some local water.
Nothing happens to him. He has drunk bad water for all his life. On the other hand you die.
This is why kids need to play outside to build immunity to common local bacteria.

When I am in Mexico, I don't worry about drinking water because I drink the local tequila.genlock wrote:A good example of this is going to rural Mexico and you and your Mexican host drink some local water.
