There's a bum in Charleston that I've seen for 3 or 4 years now. He's about half nuts like most of them. He is about 65 years old, but gets down the road at a fast clip. (walks fast).
A lawyer told me today that this bum just won $150,000 in a settlement against a drug company. The bums lawyer is pretty well known around town, and apparently he's been trolling the street zombies for lawsuits.
Think about that. And they wonder about the cost of prescriptions and health care.

Some thoughts:
* Settlements are normally confidential. I'd take the report of this one with a huge grain of salt.
* Sounds to me like the bum's lawyer is attempting to advertise by word of mouth. A practice once unethical, these days far too typical.
* Perhaps the bum's current mental state was caused by said drug? Stranger things have happened.
* IF such a settlement was reached, I wonder what/if efforts were made to preserve the bum's part for his upkeep, etc.
The whole situation just sounds very, very sad to me.

The lawyer that told me this was NOT his lawyer, and it's very common for the lawyers in this city to know within minutes of another lawyers outcome.
