What would you think if you were on this plane?

This was took by a flight attendant and posted up on a site I look at pretty regularly.... I look forward to the rant Coolbreeze is gonna leave for my afternoon reading after seeing this one.......

It's not that this guy is fat (he is).
He appears to be very tall also.
I guessing 500-600 lbs and 6'8" or so.

Here's what I take from this photo:

1... He's obviously from WV and works for the State.

2... He's not in his assigned "seats" (I'm sure he was made to purchase two) and is just visiting or getting out of the way.

3... This wouldn't be allowed on ANY airline... period.

4... This is EXACTLY why I travel to Europe each year with a female friend who's very thin. I don't want to be trapped with a fat ass like this for 8 and a half hours.

5... How in the hell does he manage to get into the very small toilet?

6... CAN he find his ass with both hands?

I would think its just the opposite.
In an increasingly fat ass world, being thin is a higher commodity.
Your "value" as a rock hard, height/weight proportionate superstud is increasing rapidly.
You are now the highly desired waifish standout in a sea of Pillsbury Doughboys (and girls).

Me thinks we need to change our perception about who is and who isn't fat. The dude in the picture is fat, no doubt about it. I, on the other hand, am not fat. Just big-boned.

To Jerry's credit, his railings on the issue of obesity caused me to take notice of the profound changes we've seen in the last 25 years. If you look at it objectively, the results are frightening. Photos from the early to mid 80s show very few morbidly obese people in our population. A month ago I read about local EMS crews getting hydraulically-operated cots to carry people weighing up to 1300 pounds. 1300 pounds! A generation ago, someone weighing 800 pounds was part of a circus freak show. Now there are enough of them that every hospital has to have a fleet of "bariatric beds" available when EMS, the police, and the entire engine company from the local fire department (all working together) drag/cut/twist/bend one of these folks out of a trailer and bring them in to have their diabetes and congestive heart failure evaluated by the ER doctor.

What happened? A proliferation of fast food? Did everybody stop walking to the mailbox once a day? Pizza delivery, The internets? 800 channels on television nowadays? What significant lifestyle change occured to throw millions of normal healthy adults across the line into morbid obesity? Over the next 50 years, the medical care alone may bankrupt the country. Jerry's photos tell the story better than I think I can.

Here's a video I uploaded some time back. It's 3 minutes of a 1 hour video of the Charleston area that shows THOUSANDS of people going about their way. This was shot in the early EIGHTIES and you will see mostly THIN people every where.

So the question of "what happened" is a good one:

What happened is the following:

1... Mom feeds the kids sweetened breakfast cereal because she's now working so that they can afford all the plastic junk they MUST have. The sugar content in this junk is little different from many candy bars.

2... Every store you walk into... from office supplies (like Staples) to auto parts stores have a candy rack at checkout. You USED to have to visit a food store of some type to see these items.

3... Mom and dad no longer have the willpower to tell their kids NO! They also dont have any self discipline themselves. As everyone becomes fatter at about the same rate, nobody notices that they are REALLY fat now compared to even 20 years ago.

4... Treats USED to be just that... something that was special, that you had now and then. They are no longer treats at all... but part of the everyday diet.

5... Our food supply (especially Fast Food) is as bad as it's ever been in mankinds history. We'd rather grab a burger than a balanced meal. Mom condones this, and wonders why little Snowflake is now a Snowball.

Random thoughts: I would add that we've spent the last 30 years removing every form of physical exertion from the workplace and school. We telecommute from home. We email or fax those reports downstairs to the other department rather than walk down and drop them off in person. We answer questions from clients and check in with the boss and close business deals while seated in our office chair or automobile using our cell phone for voice or texting. At home, does anybody actually have to get up and change a TV channel anymore? At school, do they have actual working "get-outside-and sweat for 45 minutes a day" Physical Education programs anymore? Kids play indoors on the Wii or the X Box and don't ride bikes or play sandlot baseball or build treehouses in the woods or the back yard. Hand held Nintendos, iPhones with killer apps, and an internet connected to a gazillion sources of entertainment are all culprits in the Age of the Morbidly Obese Couch Potato.

That's a given. So the REAL question is, what happens if they start physical education again? Will that carry over into the kids adult years? Or will the healthy skinny kids turn into fat adults after all is said and done? After all, there is little manual labor anymore. And even those guys are out of shape compared to 25 years ago.

We're going to have the same issues, if not WORSE in 20 years. So other than self discipline, (not Americans strong point) I'm not sure what the answer is. For myself, I had a little incentive: I'm a big fat hog waiting to get out, but since 1977, my skydiving has prevented that. You see, when you pay 2 grand for a parachute that's high performance, it has a finite weight carrying capacity. Gain 5 pounds and that sucker will reach you the new meaning of "HIGH SPEED performance". Gain 10 and you'll know a new meaning of taking your life into your hands. Now that I've slowed down in the sport, I've gained weight that I ordinarily wouldn't have.

Many people used to use clothes the same way, because they were too expensive to dump just because you gained some weight. Today, you can change close as you change weight with little effort.

But here's something that today is a controversial statement for some reason: Women used to demand that their men looked good. Men... if they wanted what all men want... made sure they towed that line. Today, the women are actually leading the obesity charge, and the men have no reason to stay fit.
