Country stars against MTR

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

How many messageboard junkies does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed..

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently..

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs..

1 to demand it be moved to the Lighting section..

2 to argue that it be moved to the Electricals section..

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs..

5 to flame the spell checkers..

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames..

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid..

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"..

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct..

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum..

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum..

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty..

7 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs..

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs..

3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group, which makes light bulbs relevant to this group..

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "me too"..

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy..

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"..

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"..

and 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

And why wouldn't you just trust the unbiased news media for all your "scientific data".

I'm curious how "climate change" data is lies that haven't been caught yet.

A few things that I have learned in the past few months...

1.) Global Warming is real, but it is not caused by greenhouse gasses, but by the cycle of the earths climate in which we are currently coming out of a mini ice age and the earth is warming. But not because of CO2.

2.) Compact florescent bulbs really cut down on the electric bill, but they are a pain in the ass to deal with. Slow warm up times, inconsistent light from different bulbs of the same brand and too freakin' expensive to put in a chandelier with a dimmer switch (of which I have one in Philly and one in KY with that issue.)

Every new compact florescent bulb I've bought so far clearly says: Not to be used with dimmer switches.

I buy them only for those places that I don't want to change out bulbs all the time. But they do have one drawback besides the obvious: They can send out a signal in the 0.45-30 MHZ range. This tends to screw up my wireless security camera sometimes. Unscrew the bulb, problem clears.

Agreed. I'm hoping we'll see a second generation of florescent bulbs that will address all these issues. The things they're doing with LED bulbs these days is simply amazing, too. I look for more residential-based "screw it in the socket and be done" type LED fixtures in the near future, and those things use next to no electricity!

Yea, they make special CF bulbs for use with dimmers that you can purchase at Lowes or Home Depot for $8.00 each. $10.00 if you want the small base for a chandelier. That translates to $60.00 each for the light in KY and PA.

I use CFL's in my outdoor lights, since they run all night long, every night. Tried using one in an indoor fixture and did not care for the slow warm-up time every time I just wanted to duck through the room for a few minutes. They can pry my incandescent bulbs from my cold dead fingers.

Read your history books. The Vikings used to have dairy farms in Greenland. In the revolutionary war, the Hudson River froze hard enough at what is now NYC to transport canons by towing them with horses. This has not happened in the last 200 years.

Yes CO2 creates a hot house environment. But we are not putting out enough CO2 to cause the issues that are described by that environmental wacko Al Gore.

Rightwingers never really have understood science or the scientific method.. Their support of SDI under Reagan, despite the education provided to them from over 100 hundred of the worlds top scientists, not to mention their pathetic attempts in the early 90's to claim that nicotine wasn't addictive, compounded with their evolving lies about global warming is proof positive of this..

Those that blindly supprt the Republican agenda only believe what they are told to believe by their leaders. Their lack of interest in educating themselves beyond what they want to believe makes them the perfect folowers for any extremist movement

Global warming will destroy the planet. It's real, and science can prove it. In 4 billion years, Sol will either burn Earth to a cinder or swallow it, when it expands as a bloated Red Giant.

Any other sort of global warming is not exactly provable. Indeed, there is more evidence we are headed towards an ice age than global warming... Even if we are, records show it was warmer than it is now in the time of the Roman Empire and the middle ages...
