Paying cops to stay off the street

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Paying cops to stay off the street

Post by CoolBreeze »

Todays story in the Gazette concerns a Charleston city cop who was removed from Stonewall Jackson Middle school by Ron Duerring for "whatever" reason. (you can read the article).

But it's her own comment that bothered me:

Monica Spriggs resigned from the Charleston Police Department Monday because, she said, she was being reassigned from the school to the patrol division.

"They don't have anything else to offer but road patrol and I'm not physically able to do road patrol," Spriggs said.

WHAT??? Then why am I paying your salary if you cant do your job as a police officer? I mean, how many desk jobs, or "hang around the water cooler" jobs should the taxpayers fund? In my opinion, if you cant do patrol, you shouldnt be there to begin with.... woman

Not physically able? How did she get on the force in the first place?
Maybe the Police Dept needed someone who could fill a quota.
Black, woman, crippled, maybe lesbian, maybe veteran, maybe left handed.
Think of all the wonderful administrative check boxes she could fill.
Police Departments are turning into social experiments.

EEO is only marginally better than nepotism.
