Tomahawks Smokehouse and Saloon in Jefferson is closed.

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Tomahawks Smokehouse and Saloon in Jefferson is closed.

Post by CoolBreeze »

According to club owner Randall Harris, several factors contributed to the closing, including the economy, difficulty in shaking the bar's rowdy biker reputation and trouble competing with Tri-State Casino & Resort.

"It's been an interesting run," Harris said Wednesday. "We certainly tried."

The club closed Sunday night. The club had planned to reopen Wednesday, after a scheduled break following the Halloween weekend, but Harris said he and the managers decided to close permanently.

Harris mentions Tri-State Casino as one of his problems, but I think the Casino has little to do with it. While his other issues may be true, he fails to mention the biggest issue with this type of Bar: The smoking ban.

Nope. That will continue as normal. Just the legal portion of the facility is closed.

I am not familiar with this place nor its owners and my comment may be way off base. Just making a joke.

Anyhoo, in trying to shake the reputation of being a biker hangout, one first may want to consider shaking the reputation of the town as THE stripper and prostitution mecca of West Virginia.

Didn't I hear Rock 105 promoting a Halloween party there? If so, I blame Jay.

According to the Hearld-Dispatch, Huntington's whores seem to hang out along 6th and 7th Avenue around 15th Street, on 8th Avenue near 20th Street, and around that Crystal Meth rehab place near the WKEE studios. Not sure about Route 60. Never saw anything in Jefferson except a couple of seedy adult book stores, a fire station, and a Go Mart. Charleston has whores?

Ah Hoosier, you missed the glory days of the 90's when Jefferson was called the Badlands and the Cheetah Lounge ruled. Strip clubs, the infamous topless carwash(is that still there?) and Smiley's Motel. Hookers and junkies abounded. Good times.

Yeah, well. I blame you for running me out of CHR at age 18. I will never be able to thank you enough for that. That's the biggest favor another radio guy ever did for me. Also, you're a douchebag and you're old.

Could have been worse. You could have gone into Country. I figure you owe me.

No question about that. Not that I ever wanted to do CHR particularly. At 18 a gig is a gig and your not sure of what direction in which you want to go. You made it absolutely clear that CHR was not for me in any number of ways. I owe you for that for life.
