West Virginia is #1....

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

West Virginia is #1....

...in lack of sleep.

Getting enough sleep? They aren't in West Virginia
By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer

ATLANTA – Sleepless in Seattle? Hardly. West Virginia is where people are really staying awake, according to the first government study to monitor state-by-state differences in sleeplessness.

West Virginians' lack of sleep was about double the national rate, perhaps a side effect of health problems such as obesity, experts said.

Nearly 1 in 5 West Virginians said they did not get a single good night's sleep in the previous month. The national average was about 1 in 10, according to a federal health survey conducted last year and released Thursday.

Tennessee, Kentucky and Oklahoma also were notably above average in their reported lack of sleep. In contrast, North Dakota had fewer problems sleeping, with only 1 in 13 reporting that degree of sleeplessness.

Nope. Its because we're workin' in a coal mine, going down down.
Financial stress and odd-hour work shifts can play roles in sleeplessness, too, Chervin added. He suggested those may be contributing factors in West Virginia, an economically depressed state with tens of thousands of people working in coal mining.

They are not polling the thousands of workers that sleep at work.

Trees and mountains don't pay the bills. Jobs and business does. All the scenery in the world won't help you come up with the next month's mortgage, or put overtaxed gas in your tank.

There's only one way to turn this economic malaise around, and it's not running everyone who wants things to change out of the state, and taxing everyone who stays to death.

If you want a good night's sleep, get more jobs and industry here.

Or take Ambien.

West Virginians can't sleep because most are within earshot of a G-D mine vent fan.

thre arent as many active underground mines as there were even 10 years ago in this state, and usually the vents are not in the immediate area of any houses...

Words change over the years.
We used to call the "Fanhouses" or just "Fans".
You guys are educated better.
Vents sound strange as they are always powered units.

Tour statement makes it sound like your ass is as big as your county, your immediate area.
In retrospect, the output of the fans did have a bad smell.

Maybe we can run the vent fans near a certain residence in Hurricane. He seems to enjoy complaining about noise.
