What is going on at WTRF in Wheeling, WV?

In the last 3 weeks they have lost some employees.

1. Steven Centofonti left.
2. Nate Fluharty turned in his two weeks notice. (very good young talent)
3. Stacy Rich was not on this morning. (9-21-09)
- Her replacement was Dave Elias and he stated this morning on the radio that his new schedule is tough to get adjusted to and evening anchor Leigh Ann Towne would be his replacement later this week as he covers the G20 summit in Pittsburgh, PA.

I am in no way bashing 7 at all, because i do enjoy the newsbroadcast but i really enjoyed when they had the young crew in the morning.

Good luck in your future endevours folks. You were a staple of my mornings and weekends.

Not too sure of all the happenings at wtrf, but my take is all the belt tightening has taken a toll on everyone that works for wvmh stations... I heard that Sarah Kapis also put in her notice at wboy, not sure of her last day but rumor is she like
most are fed up stressed out and burnt

I don't expect things to improve at all as people get more burnt out and continue to have things taken away such as benefits and such, as they continue to find ways to cut costs, usually at the expense of employees.

maybe the burnout is seeping over to WTOV9. Dino Orsatti just quit yesterday -- after 14 years. Gone off the air and the website already.

I'll tell you whats up, same reason nobody can seem to fill the open jobs in our industry in this area... THE MONEY FUCKING SUCKS!!!.. hell even i've considered going to a smaller market for a pay-raise in the last year or so. These stations and their managers think that just because we're in WV they can pay whatever scraps they feel like throwing. And its finally starting to show.

I was wondering what happened to Dino. He came to my classroom in the 80s while still at WTRF and videotaped my ugly mug as I read aloud to my class. I wish only the best for him.

Anyone that works those hours, whether in TV or radio, you have my utmost respect. Your family's entire life has to revolve around that unnatural schedule.

I had no idea D.O. was still around! I always liked that guy. He always seemed like a real low-key professional, who never got the breaks. I remember when he was doing mornings on WTRF. He interviewed me once too, back in the mid-80's. Thought he was a cool guy. Hope he's found something better, but geez, he must be over 50 now, huh?

as far as money goes, it doesn't help that there are so many people in this industry who will not speak out against bad working conditions and who will tolerate entry level pay for broadcast veterans -- just in order to remain in "showbiz" My best to Dino.

Yep... Radio has almost always paid their people with "glamor". And currently it is a buyers market on those folks... making it hard for real talent to get (or keep) a job.

The Ohio Valley is definitely losing 2 of their best with Nate and Dino leaving .. I remember watching Dino years ago when he was on 7. He's always been a solid newsanchor. As far as reporters Nate has become one of the best in the valley. Does anyone know if they are staying in TV?

Noticed WTRF had an ad in the Sunday News-Register, looking for a news-writer/story-producer. Didn't say anything about pay, I expect it's about $3, but what do I know? Thought I'd mention it.

Apparently it's not only who you know, but who you date more importantly who is your dates daddy that keeps you at WTRF. No wonder why WKKX never talked about what happened. I had a feeling nepotism played a part and it sure enough it reared it's ugly head again (Go figure at WKKX). WKKX and WTRF make good partners, neither have ratings and are now insignificant to the Ohio Valley when it comes to news and information.
