A plea for a positive image of West Virginia

Suzanne McMinn is a personal friend of mine who moved deep into the woods of WV with her children after deciding that it would be a better place to raise them than the big cities. Her father was born and raised not far from where she lives now. Suzanne lives outside of Walton WV in Roane County.

Suzanne writes the most wonderful blog about farm life that I've ever read. Recipes and farm life in general has made her blog very popular. (even I have photos there)

I write to entertain, inspire, encourage, and motivate my readers to enjoy the simple life in all the true richness (what I call "ordinary splendor") it offers.

She is now trying to win a contest for people with popular websites so that she can continue to work from home, while being sponsored by big name companies.

"It was a cold wintry day when I brought my children to live in rural West Virginia. The farmhouse was one hundred years old, there was already snow on the ground, and the heat was sparse-—as was the insulation. The floors weren’t even, either. There's a huge difference here: Her website is both professionally written and places WV in a good light. I cant do that day after day, and neither can most who live here. She stays away from politics and the "downsides" of WV, although the struggles are posted. Consider it escapism, or the way it should be.

To support her means this will continue, and people around the world JUST MIGHT have a different view of West Virginia. Lord knows we could use something positive for a change.

West Virginia has exported it's best and brightest to other states for years now. I'd like to to hold on to this one, if only through family lines.
