West Virginia Public Broadcasting is seeking an Operations Assistant I to perform a daily on-air shift for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, anchor newscasts during board shift as needed, perform basic operational tasks, and provide production assistance.

Qualifications include: Four year college degree, two years experience in radio, preferably in public radio, or equivalent combination of education and experience, basic knowledge of broadcast radio operations, demonstrated announcing and writing skills and thorough knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.

Is it only NPR/WVPB that asks for a 4 year degree to be a board-op?

Most public stations require degrees.
It is a better intellectual fit with the rest of the employees.
They left out bland, humorless and clueless.
One former board-op had a masters degree in trombone from Duke.
That kind of crap is common at public stations.
You can have a lot of fun with people like that if you are normal.

Compared to commercial radio, it is retirement.
Very easy work. Just look sad and concerned all the time.

At a college or university, you need a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture to get a job mowing the grass.
They require you to have the one thing they sell.

Don't let the degree angle put you off if you are looking for work.
Apply anyway. Even public radio prefers a competent person who shows up for work.
The place is air conditioned and the rest rooms are clean.
They have even been known to employ right-wingers in jobs that require actual useful knowledge and skills.

H-R department is in beckley.
WV public radio has studios and offices at 600 Capitol St in Charleston.
Near where all the prostitutes hang out.

Wow. Got my start in broadcasting at WMUL, and then part time with WPBY...back in the 80's. Wonder if much has changed since then? I need a job.

Public Radio is a lot like WMUL.
Music cuts are longer.
Restroom is closer.
