oh no.... I can't believe this.
I am too far away to attend, but will certainly be thinking of Vern and family in my prayers.
How can I reach Hazel or Fred Damron??

Hazel is spending a tremendous amount of time at the station keeping things running. You should be able to reach her at 304-648-5752 from very early AM to at least late afternoon. I'm certain she would be happy to hear from you.
Fred is directly involved as well. He has already commited to assisting with engineering and technical needs until other options are looked at. These are both fine people who have a deep respect for what that signal means in that region. I'm confident that each will do what they can to keep the station running. I know as well that they have the full support of both local and county education leaders - no one wants to lose this thing.
I just get can't get past the fact that Vern's deep baritone delivery is silenced. What a voice and what a way with local radio! He set a high standard.

Went to visitation tonight.
Vernon was in firemans dress uniform.
How many of you have ever seen Vern Stanfill dressed up for any occasion.
Vern's brother Don was there from Tawas, Michigan. Nice guy.
Lots of teachers, firefighters, paramedics, cops, ham operators and friends there.
Vern will be missed.

I would have come from Cincinnati, for the visitation,
but I'm in Texas this week.
The Dayton Hamvention will not be the same.

Re: Funeral Arrangements - Vernon Stanfill
There was quite a turn-out for Vernon's memorial service earlier today. Several eulogies were offered including one by longtime friend Jack O'Shea. Full firefighter rites were performed in honor of Vernon's 30+ years of service as a firefighter/paramedic with the Fort Gay VFD/EMS. He would have thought it was way too much - in reality it wasn't near enough.
In true local radio fashion, WFGH carried the services live and recorded them for posterity. Now THAT Vern would have approved of. Take the goods to the people's homes and keep it local. He lived it every day.
I'll miss him terribly.

Re: Funeral Arrangements - Vernon Stanfill
Does anybody know where Vern will be laid to rest?
None of the anouncements had that info.
Will it be in Ft. Gay? or MIddletown/Franklin Ohio?

Per Vernon's wishes, following the memorial service his body was cremated. The family did not mention the final disposition of the cremains.
