Anybody here read comic books when they were young? I didn't read a lot, but I was always interested. I was mainly a Spider-Man reader. This would be in the late 70's. I wonder what you guys read way back when. Anybody still into that? What's hot to read now? I hear the Comic Book industry after a boom in the 90's has fallen now on hard times.

Spider-Man, Daredevil (after Frank Miller took over), X-Men, Alpha Flight, Power-Man and Iron First (before they killed it off), Moon Knight and Cloak and Dagger. The Flash, and Batman were my favs from the DC side.

Not sure about today's market... to hear my youngest son talk about it though, it's still the traditional lot... but "alternate universes" seem to dominate most of the story lines.

We had a family friend that worked at W.T. Grants'/ Murphy's in Sistersville, so I got a lot of comics with the upper part of the cover ripped off (ones that were to be sent back). I DID buy a bunch of legit ones, however. I liked Superman, Flash, Green Lantern and the Fantastic Four.

This thread is a weird coincidence. I sold my comic collection Friday to a comics store here in Winston. I had a number of first issues, including Swamp Thing and some other late 60's early 70's DC stuff. Lot of Superman and Action comics, Brave and the Bold, Superboy and others.
Apparently, I had a few that were fairly valuable ( 10 bucks for a 12 cent comic seems pretty good to me). Did quite well.
Anybody remember any of these, all DC? New Gods

Cracked had it's moments, especially when Don Martin jumped ship...

But Mad kicked it's ass. Mad Magazine influenced my sense of humor more than anything...

AS far as comics...I had Flash #2...the first Spiderman when Todd Mcfarlane took over. The "Crisis on Infinite Earths" series and "Armageddon 2001"...which was a dupe because they changed the ending at the last minute because it "leaked", plus various others...OH...I did have Flash #50 when Wally West died and "came back" again as a "new" Flash.

Never got the chance to read the Frank Miller version of "Batman" nor did I read "Watchmen", but I did see the movie and I thought it was really good...bought the DVD even, although I could have done without seeing Dr. Manhattan's junk.
