That is not a correct list due to the fact that the federal government breaks down vehicles by powertrain. Consequently, the Escape is listed multiple times (4 to be precise) because it is avaiable with 2 and 4 wheel drive as well as hybrid versions of both.

I am waiting for the final list from Edmunds to see who the real winner will be.

According to CNBC this morning, the big winner in Cash For Clunkers is Ford, with sales up 15% going INTO the program. Ford share price has completely recovered to pre recession/car slump level.
Taxpayers win big with automakers, car dealers, parts suppliers and other related industries all seeing a spike.

In other news, part sellers like nearly bankrupt PepBoys are even closer to the brink now that all the old cars they provided parts for are off the streets.

Let's probe your economic theory: Now that CfC is over, what do you think is going to happen to car sales for the next few months? Corresponding trough? What will be the overall long-trend effect in car sales? I know what I think. Like a sine wave. Total benefit zero. Cost, large.

So you'd rather we do nothing?
Or maybe spend 30 times that amount declaring war on a third world country?
That way, we can fatten the pockets of companies supplying the war effort.
Companies we <*cough*> used to <*cough*> be affiliated with ...

Not my theory. CNBC, hardly a proponent of the left. When even Bob Pisani of CNBC says Cash for Clunkers was a resounding success, you're way out of touch to pretend it isn't.

What was the context of Pisani's comment? Short term? Long Term? I think you are out of touch to not be taking a deeper dive and reading more articles about the bust that is about ready to hit the auto industry this winter. If you did not strike last winter and pick up a bargain priced car, you will have another chance this winter with better deals than we saw with C4C.

No. Lets spend $250 Billion in propagating the spread of hydrogen refueling stations for greener cars that will ween our need for foreign oil. Let's spend another $250 Billion making the technology perfect and the Japanese have to license it from us to put in their cars. Let's also spend another $250 Billion in developing solar and turbine retrofit kits to add renewable energy generation to every house in the nation.

That is a start. The democrats in Washington don't have a fu#$*ng clue as to how to spend money to make it do something positive and instead of shooting trillions up the asses of camels in the desert they we funnel it into the thugs and criminals that run American labor. (Not that I am offended by the latter.) We can do better and Obama is nothing more than a sellout to the Democrats on Capitol Hill that don't have a clue. This administration has turned into a joke. Change? I don't see any change except for the tone of the rhetoric.

If we did everything you just wrote, we'd have people screaming in the streets about the debt and about how that Evil Socialist Communist Marxist Leninist Guv'mint is trying to strip us of our freedoms. We'd have the oil companies and the electric companies spending billions of dollars under the table to organize and fund Energy Tea Parties and astroturf "revolts" at community meetings, allowing them to keep their little sweetheart deal moneymaker businesses yet keeping their fingerprints off the front line, just like the insurance companies are doing now with health care. Manipulate the party loyalists and the brainless into following the crowd right over the cliff.

I fault Obama and many of the Congressional Democrats with one thing: They are still trying to be civil, reasonable, and respectful toward a group of people (the Republicans) who want nothing less than to politically destroy every last Democrat and completely obliterate everything they stand for. The Democrats I see are a bunch of hand-wringing, play-by-the-book-regardless-of-how-dirty-the-other guys-are, spineless pussies that cannot or will not fight fire with fire. They need to stand together and deliver a salvo of groin kicks Karl Rove style to every Republican that gets in the way and get the agenda they were elected to deliver moving as fast as possible. If the Republicans were handed the White House and both houses of Congress in the last election, that's EXACTLY what they'd do.

2009 projected car sales expected 10.5-11 million units. Break even is 10 million. Sales will slow significantly through September and into Fall. No surprise. Does not reduce the success of Cash for Clunkers. If Republicans had done it, you'd love it.
btw, US so far had made 17.5% return on Tarp money. Also, less than half of 700 billion was actually spent. Tarp profits to gov't ( that's us) reduced 2009 deficit by 262 billion.

How in the hell do I win by having all these people make money? Do I get interest on my money or what?

Look.... I along with millions of other Americans already voted with our wallets: WE DIDN'T WANT CRAPPY AMERICAN CARS. The companies SHOULD HAVE GONE UNDER, or completely restructured into a much smaller company if they had that capability. The government decided that even though we had already spoken.... chosen our favorite cars, it would force us to spend our money on them come hell or high water.

The only thing left now is to watch them FAIL AGAIN. Maybe next time, the government will finally leave us alone and finally say good riddance to the bums.

I got to drive a 2007 Fusion with only 40k not too long ago... All I can say is, wow, but not in a good way.

Rattled around, muffler is already rumbling, felt every bump in the road through the steering wheel, and it handled with all the grace of a tank.

I almost believed the hype.

Uh, did you miss the list of top 10 sellers in Cash for Clunkers. Eight were imports.
btw, Ford sales up 21.5% , Chrysler and GM double digits down again.

Admit it, you don't want anything good to happen economically as long as the Democrats run things. You're another one of those who loves America, you just hate Americans.
