Sinclair avoids bankruptcy (for now)

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., which had said it might be forced to file for bankruptcy protection because of substantial debt coming due, said it has reached a tentative deal to pay off nearly $438 million in convertible notes.

With the digital conversion, why doesn't Sinclair sell off WCHS or WVAH and pile both onto one station? MyZ runs off of WSAZ on 3.2, so it seems like they could run WVAH on 8.2 or WCHS on 11.2. Cable coverage would be the same, as would over-the-air reception. And they could make a mint that way. Hmmm....

One signal does not have enough capacity (bits) for two HD streams.
Other stations have started second streams with retro tv or music videos.
Channel 8 had a music video in 8.2 for a bit and dropped it due to some legal reason.
WOWK has a weather radar stream on 13.2. Best they can do, apparently.
WSAZ has had MyZ on for a long time. It may even make money for them.
At any rate, it serves as someplace to sell real cheap spots.
WSAZ management has used good business sense and found some way to
make money and keep sales people on their toes. Ratings are soo poor for stations other than WSAZ,
I suspect that the other managers are afraid that RetroTV or something like it would
take ratings from their main channel. I wonder what the viewership of MyZ is, compared to WOWK?

Speaking of digital conversion, I wonder why Suddenlink hasn't assigned the prime real estate of channel 8 on the Charleston cable system? Years ago WCHS was on there, but the intereference from analog channel 8 forced them to move CHS back to its original home on channel 7. With the analog shut down, this intereference should be gone.

suddinlinks runs a generic slide show off a windows XP box on channel 8, only reason I know that part is i've seen the screensaver up on it before when surfing late at night.
