It's had the same format for another 10 minutes. I smell format-change!

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
Wonder how much better WCHS would do if they moved to FM...either as a total or partial simulcast.
KAZ has been lagging since the JACK mistake.
Maybe it's time.

WCHS-AM to 98.7 FM, an idea whose time has come.AmpedNow wrote:Wonder how much better WCHS would do if they moved to FM...either as a total or partial simulcast.
KAZ has been lagging since the JACK mistake.
Maybe it's time.
107.3 becomes "Hot Hits 107 ... The Beat of Charleston", going head to head with Electric 102.
Jazz up the playlist (and the audio processing) on 680 AM for Oldies from 1962-1975ish.
Smokin' Combination.
My invoice for consulting fees will be in the mail.
Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
IMO, a "CHS-FM" on 107.3 would be a better biller than urban. And it would certainly do better than a 4 share.Hoosier Daddy wrote:WCHS-AM to 98.7 FM, an idea whose time has come.AmpedNow wrote:Wonder how much better WCHS would do if they moved to FM...either as a total or partial simulcast.

If they didn't simulcast, imagine the monster talk lineup they could put together... 950 would be toast.

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
I thought moving RVZ to 107.3 would give Electric some real head-to-head competition.
RVZ does pretty good with 600 watts directional right now.
Moving WCHS to 98.7 would cover the core market, plus you have the powerhouse AM signal.
But ... I think either proposal would have merit.
Wasn't WV Radio Corporation an early adopter of IBOC?
If so, why isn't WCHS already on V-100's HD channel and KAZ-AM on KAZ-FM's (or Kicks 96's) HD channel?
Then promote the hell out of this, since you already spent all that money for IBOC equipment.
It's no freakin' wonder IBOC is a failure. No one uses it, and no one knows it's there.

Congrats, Bristol. Electric sounded great last time I was in town. I'm glad to see it's paying off.

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
It does not amaze me to see WKEE in the third spot due to the fact it sounded better than it ever has and obviously that is not what the listeners of the tri-state want. But what would I know? I am (pretty much) a Philadelphian.

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
Does anybody have any numbers for the Morgantown Metro area? No disrespect, folks, but when I travel through there, it strikes me as a bit of...well, I don't want to sound harsh, because I'm sure a lot of fine people are putting a lot of hard work into the efforts...but it sounds a bit "same-y." The so-called classic rockers seem to play the same, tired, anthemic AC-DC/LedZep/Rush cliches. The sing-through-yer-nose stations...well, 'nuff said. The flavor-of-the-week stations seem to be more concerned with everything but the music...cutesy liners and bumpers and a flurry of formatic furbelows. They all seem to be trying so hard to get noticed, but they're giving us no real reason to notice them. The distinctions are a bit blurred.
Be that as it may, any numbers to report?

Below a 3.5 but above a 3.3.

Re: 12+ Arbitron Ratings
Nice to see WCMI-FM around again in the ratings, and pretty much where it was back in the 90's when it was the first Classic Rock station in the Huntington-Ashland area.
Hint: Go classic rock, dump the emo whiner rock bullshit that doesn't sell and that no one wants to listen to. Everyone has handed it to yo
WRVC 930 would get better ratings if they ran all 80's like WLGC 1520 than the bullshit ran there now. Why would anyone want to listen to Morgantown Talkline, Queen Dean, who is more boring than NPR, followed by a lib talker who hasn't pulled a 1.0 in this market ever, followed by 2 hours of excuses for Mark Snyder. You could put me back on that station and I could get better ratings than anything on there. I'm serious.

Your first official tasks should be to take the 1-year-old article about Cody Slate off the front-page of the website.
(Then you could update the program-schedule so it doesn't reflect all-ESPN programming).
Get to work, Blair.

I guess Kindred had to layoff their web person to cut costs so they could keep the sky box at the Joan...
