Real Country-Check This Guy Out

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Real Country-Check This Guy Out

Post by Dave Allen »

For those of you who like REAL country music..I'm talking the Waylon/Willie/George Jones/ Hank Jr (before he became a stupid parody of himself) I would highly suggest you buy (yes people actually do STILL buy CD'S) some Jamey Johnson. Hell, look him up on YouTube if you have to. The guy is the real deal in a world of Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, etc. I promise you if the Pope bought one of his CD's he would be doing Jim Beam straight, too. Listen to "The Cost Of Living High" or "That Lonesome Song". You have to love any artist who talks about trading his good life for cocaine and a whore. For those who like this kinda stuff, trust me you WON't be disappointed.

But I like Wild Turkey 101 Proof and Knob Creek. I also swing more toward the Bakersfield sound of Haggard/Owens/Yoakam but have an appreciation of Waylon/Willie/Hank/George.

[checking out Jamey Johnson Honky Tonk Badonkadonk]

Damn! This guy is a favorite on my Pandora Honky Tonk Radio mix based on the Bakersfield sound mixed Texas country. Pass the Knob Creek - I need some sippin' whiskey on ice.

You are right on the money. I'm a rock guy, and think all country since the seventies sucks, but this guy is the real deal. Our sister station WAYZ brought him in for a show at the Cancun Cantina West here in Hagerstown MD, and the dude blew it up. He also looks like his face should be on a whiskey bottle.

He wrote "Give It Away" for George Strait. He also wrote possibly the worst song EVER "Honkytonkbadonkadonk" for Trace Adkins, a song he admits he wrote totally for the money. Most of his stuff is on YouTube. The guy is, as was stated earlier, the REAL DEAL.

Good stuff...

"...traded it for cocaine and a whore..."

Now THAT'S a country lyric!!

Good thing there's some great alt-country out there like Hank III. I put it on when I'm in the mood...

Check out "Mowin' Down The Roses".

BTW I'm a HUGE Hank III fan, too.

If that's the guy who sings "You should have seen it in color", I am definitely on that bandwagon.

It is, and that is one of the weaker tracks on the CD, if that tells you anything.

For those of you who like a "real" mix, you'll really enjoy this cd. Besides the incredible song writing talents, Jamey Johnson has a distinctive sound that most country acts would never attempt.
