Been Doin' Some Scanning: Baseball, Radio, TV, 1966, My Dad

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Been Doin' Some Scanning: Baseball, Radio, TV, 1966, My Dad

Post by Scott Reppert »

I've been cleaning house since my Mom has gone in to the nursing home and I'm finding all kinds of neat things!

Let me share a few of them with you here. Hope everything comes out clearly...

1937 photo and article about my Dad beginning his second year of basketball with Salem College:

St. Louis Dispatch radio listings from June 22, 1966:

St. Louis Dispatch television listings from June 22, 1966. Noteworthy, of course, is "The Lloyd Thaxton Show":

Parkersburg Sentinel picture of me and Mark Suck sporting our game used Cincinnati Reds uniforms at a 1987 sportscard show:

Wow, great stuff there!

Several notes:

<> Great Cam Henderson reference in your dad's photo. Glenville State Teacher's College? Who would have known!

<> It still cracks me up to see how radio used to program themselves like television, with a church show just after the 6:00 am sign on, then a "women's show" or a farm report, then local news, then a half hour of music, yada, yada ...

<> AM radio stations: 17 FM stations: 11. Wonder how many FM's simply simulcasted the AM in mono?

<> Love those old phone numbers with the first two letters often spelling a word. "JAckson 3-3421"

<> Lloyd Thaxton! Deja vu. I think he was briefly featured in the Mary Weiss Shangri-Las video clip I posted here a few days ago. He was the announcer who said "well, that makes you the leader of the pack" and Weiss touched his head as he had a fever. Is that the guy, Scott? I thought it was but not sure.

<> Scott Reppert is a serious, serious collector of nostalgia, especially baseball stuff and Hot Wheels cars!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting!

"Girl in a box" might have learned to walk when those pictures were taken.
