I have never been a person for voice tracking or sat. shows but, gee whiz get Terra off the air she royally flubbed up a tornado warning. If you haven't heard her yet check her out. She does the drive time on PAY 104.1. Just think of all the talent that has lost there jobs because of downsizing & this person still has a job!

Why was she even reading the tornado warning? Let NWS pass it along thru the EAS...at least the computer can read....

She's awful. It's funny how the jocks on WNXT-FM sound much better by comparison.

I realize that I'm woefully old school (and I don't know the person you are talking about) but I feel that weather warnings should ALWAYS be read by a live body if you are lucky enough to have one in the building.

You assume that person can read and accurately convey information. In the case of this woman, that is not necessarily an accurate assumption. In fact, it is most often not.

In that case she shouldn't be there. Thankfully I don't live in an area prone to tornados but I would think that ANY TIME there is the threat of severe weather, day or night 24/7, there should be a live, halfway intelligent person in the building.

WDGG volunatarily passed Ohio EAS traffic until about a year ago.
I asked the Ohio EAS coordinator to take WDGG off their plan as our monitoring-assignment was WPAY.
The coordinator seemed all-too-familliar with the WPAY EAS "problem" and sent a letter of release.

NWS, KY, and WV will activate the Ohio counties now.

It's a wonder any EAS traffic gets to the South Central Ohio region. WPAY is the LP1. WKKJ (then at 50kW on 93.3 in Chillicothe) was the LP2, but it got moved to Columbus. I think 94.3 in Chillicothe is now the LP2, but a good portion of the region probably doesn't get a usable signal from it.

WKKJ is now the LP2 which was the former WFCB in Chillicothe.

Well she may not be my fave on air person, but having live, local people on the radio is pretty valuable.

You can't get Seacrest to tell people where they can get drinking water or where shelters are open when something bad happens locally.

They had some storms a couple of weekends ago with a lot of power outages and roads closed and whoever the girl was working the weekend (It wasn't T) did just fine reading the list of closures, etc. I was in my normal station flipping mode and caught it. That was an excellent argument for keeping local people in the studio. It doesn't happen often, but man when it does, you cannot put a price on that kind of service.

Wish more stations would do that.

I agree on having a live person in the studio, but just not Terra. When your DJ can't even get out the simplest of liners or an important weather update its time to find someone who can! Last I checked C.C. has some cast offs who would probable jump at the chance.

WPAY filed an appllication 7/24/09 with the FCC to "tighten-the-belt" and create a directional C0 facility to allow 2 stations to the North and West to upgrade - and some cash, of course.

They also wish to change their city-of-license from Portsmouth to New Boston, OH.
(The hotbed of advertising in the region?)
Do they need to use the word, "New" more often throughout the day?

Does the current/planned facility overshoot Portsmouth?
What's wrong with say, Otway?
Is it the "wrong-way"?
Is the, "?" being used to much?

The class reduction proposal has been percolating for a long time, it was originally to allow 104.3 Richwood, Ohio to downgrade to an A from a B-1 and move to West Jefferson, in the SW corner of Franklin County (Columbus).

This minor tweek apparently helps the 104.3 station in the Cincy area move to a better transmitter site, it was originally over by the Indiana border.

However, I can't figure out the reason for changing the COL to New Boston. Makes absolutely no sense to me unless they have plans to buy & move WIOI (which is owned by someone else) to another town.

Reading the attachments, it appears that the COL change is there to exploit some sort of loophole involving the filing of multiple contingent applications involving the same facility. I didn't go into the details thoroughly as far as the legal stuff, but here's the scorecard as I understand it:

Columbus area:
104.3 Richwood --> West Jefferson
92.7 Bucyrus --> Richwood (to "backfill" and provide the "local service" requirement)
There was also a contingent app involving WCVO at 104.9 to meet 3rd adjacent requirements. WCVO backed out of the deal, so 104.3 will have to stay a little further away than they probably wanted.

Now, we add Cincinnati:
104.3 Harrison --> not sure of any COL change, but will move the signal closer into the metro.

WCVO's move was sabotaged by NIMBY's. That site would have allowed WODB to put a transmitter site closer to downtown Columbus. WCVO had to quickly find a second site as their original site was sold out from under them.
