Huntington-Charleston HD locals coming to DIRECTV

DIRECTV will add seven additional markets where it makes local HD television available this summer, taking its total of cities served by local HD to 133, or 91 percent of all U.S. TV households, the company said last week.

The direct-to-home satellite TV provider will add local HD channels in: Charleston-Huntington, WV; Columbia, SC; Huntsville-Decatur, AL; Jackson, MS; Lexington, KY; Roanoke-Lynchburg, VA; and Shreveport, LA. According to Derek Chang, executive VP, content strategy and development, at DIRECTV, the company plans to add more national and local HD channels in 2010.

“We understand the importance local programming in HD plays in the overall television viewing experience,” he said.

Everyone start canceling your Suddenlink cable accounts. With the combo of locals in HD plus NFL Sunday Ticket, this will be a great fall on DirecTV.

True, but the network programming is all that's necessary. I think most viewer's could care less if First at 5 is in HDTV.

That is great! However, I don't suppose the Beckley-Bluefield-Oak Hill market will ever be on DirecTV.... maybe I'm better off with the NY-LA networks though. For local news with a terk indoor it is crazy in this market, as WOAY Digital 50 freezes and goes off and on and WVNS CBS 59 (really digital sometimes comes in and sometimes doesn't...WVVA NBC has no signal in Fayette county....but WSWP PBS is solid. This market is kinda like a third world country for locals w/o cable. I just stay on my DirecTV and only venture out for an occasional weather report (when the locals work.) ....maybe someday in a high tech world with Vios or some type of internet delivery (We can dream!)

had to have the chip replaced in my tv a couple years ago, mitsubishi said that was a common thing, had dish networks HD package and the non-HD channels were digital 720p and the tv had to switch up resolutions when i went between the HD and digital channels. the chip was a little bigger than a flash card and would have cost around 400 bucks if the tv hadnt been under warranty.
