Bye, Fi

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Bye, Fi

Post by Jet Black »

SciFi channel, which IMHO has been worthless since they ditched pretty much all traditional science fiction years ago in favor of a handful of series and made-for-cable movies, now is about to further cement it's reputation, at least in my mind, by changing it's hard (for low IQ viewers) to understand SciFi to a more viewer-friendly SyFy.

This world is really going to Hell. I guess I'm getting too old. Everything seems really stupid to me.

I just tried to read a thread on a message board where every post was made by someone under twenty years old.

I lasted about thirty seconds and gave up...

Why Sci-Fi is wortrh watching no matter how they spell it.
Battlestar Galactica, best sci-fi series, one of the best tv series ever.
Doctor Who. nuff said
Eureka smart and funny.

Ghosthunters is crap. Scariest Places blows and the scary "Punk'd" rip off is worse.

And quite done...

The reasonable side of me would tend to agree... but it's a guilty pleasure none-the-less.

I'd really love to know what is driving the name change... the real reason, not the stupid bullshit marketing spin. Does someone else hold copyright on SciFi? Strange things are afoot at the Circle K, methinks.

I only watched the last 5-7 episodes and it was a good series, but frack. This is cable so use real f%$*ing curse words. we know what you mean.

This is one of 4 shows I download via bit torrent from the original airings from the BBC across the pond. The BBCA/SciFi is a little too cut for my tastes.

If you like Dr. Who, be sure to catch the week long Torchwood event on BBCA beginning July 20th. http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/index.jsp Yes, that is Captain Jack from series I and Series III.

The real reason for the name change, saw it in this morning's paper. So they can trademark the brand and own the name. Sci-Fi , being the long used generic term for Science Fiction, not able to be trademarked.
All about marketing options.

btw, Battlestar NOT done, as new movie and series coming this winter.

It also could stem from the acronyms used in texting these days. Yahoo! already has OMG, which is their celebrity gossip tabloid portal. How long before Comedy Central re brands as LOL or LMAO.

I agree wholeheartedly. We are destroying ourselves by allowing and reinforcing the bastardized spelling of common words.

If it's half as good as BSG, it'll be pretty damn good.
