Sniff..poor Ernie..he was my journalistic mentor starting from 7th grade and has been with me all along. He was always giving me advice and one of the happiest when I got the sideline reporting job for MU Football.
He was one of my dad's best friends. They died a year apart..almost to the day...RIP Ernesto...

Just talked to Ernie at the Prichard Sandwich Shop in Huntington a week ago. His only health complaint was about one of his eyes. I know he was 87 but I wouldn't have thought he was close to dying. I told him I was getting to pursue sportswriting a a 'hobby' since MU had recognized HerdNation.com as media and I got the credentials. I also told him it was a thrill to be in the press box named for him at the stadium when I covered a game for the first time last season. Of course (being Ernie) he offered to help me in any way he could.
