I Have Had The Chicken

Okay, so I ventured out tonight in search of the KFC Grilled Chicken which I happened to have heard about somewhere. I drove in, girl asked me if I would like to try their newest taste sensation and I told her to whip it on me. I got it with mashed potatoes and gravy and cole slaw. I got it home and I was fairly impressed. I actually could have used a third piece (the two pieces I had were smallish), but when you throw in the biscuit it was basically just enough.

I would give it a B+, which would make it second in my book only to Roy Rogers' Rotisserie Chicken from back in the early to mid 90's. Now THAT I could have eaten everyday! Used to get it at the Roy's that was in Frostburg, MD where the Sheetz is now...

Old Terpy is NOT nuts. I looked and looked for that Roy Rogers recently...and almost said Sheetz or something similar!

Not bad at all.
Not quite enough food in the "meal" to fill me up.
But ... a few bucks cheaper than what you normally pay at KFC for a dinner.

Or was it just grilled chicken? Are you parhaps referring to the striped lines on the chicken?

KFC put together some "Under $5" meals, and the two piece combo is part of it. That's the hook... the pieces are too small to actually fill you up.

I have found if you buy the chicken in a bucket, you get bigger pieces than if you purchase a meal. Not sure of the logic.

I still like the Costco and Sam's Club rotisserie chicken better. Plus for $5.00 I get enough chicken for two dinners and three lunches. If I can let it last that long. Plus the dogs love all the scraps that are leftover.

KFC Goes Loco?

In a game of chicken, El Pollo Loco has challenged KFC to a smackdown over who grills up a better bird.

KFC may have taken the bait.

As the two fight for market share in California, El Pollo Loco says KFC executives pretended to be customers in a couple of prank calls.

It all started after El Pollo Loco aired a commercial putting up a phone number and challenging KFC to call to participate in a "Taste of Fire Challenge". Well, they got some calls, from "customers" who claim KFC has a superior product.

Except El Pollo Loco says the caller IDs led back to KFC and parent YUM! headquarters in Kentucky.

So now El Pollo Loco is airing another ad with two of the alleged phone messages.

I never could understand the thinking behind KFC. As you all know how the story goes, Col Sanders went all over the country selling his chicken to already established restaurants. These restaurants "featured" KFC along with their standard menu. This is how Dave Thomas, while operating The Ranch House Restaurant ran into the Colonel, incoporated his chicken, made a fortune and later used it to open Wendy's. At some point, free-standing KFCs started to appear, but for all practical purposes, they were sort of dingy and dirty looking. Somehow, the franchise held on and continued. But truth be known, to this very day I see more dingy looking KFCs than I do anything close to a MacDonalds or Burger King. They are often set back in a dingy part of town also. They have always had a good product, but never seemed to be able to become an "A" fast food place. Management? Individual franchise owners? Most likely.

I'm pleased that KFC's new product is garnering such good, postive reviews. Indeed, I'm looking forward to trying it, myself.

Maybe now they'll do something about those vile, wretched, flavorless, so-called mashed potatoes on their menu! Not even that bland, over-salted, 40-weight goo they call "gravy" adds any worth to them. The side dishes are the things upon which KFC should be improving. And there's lots of room for improvement!

My older daughter and I ordered this yesterday. The chicken is very good, but, as one poster noted, the pieces are small. My daughter gave me her extra taco, so all turned out well.

Small chain El Pollo Loco has brought to light humiliating ingredients in rival chicken restaurant KFC’s grilled chicken recipe- beef powder and rendered beef fat.

Using a tip from twitter, El Pollo Loco jumped on the opportunity to poke fun of KFC in TV commercials and even a website called BeefyChicken.com....

Pretty good, if you like grilled chicken. I prefer my chicken, though, like my women. Full of fat, covered in grease and dripping gravy.

KFC has won over my father, who goes out of his way to eat healthy, with the addition of grilled chicken to its menu. I strongly suspect that it is here to stay.
