WSAZ technical problems
Todays 5 pm newscast.
Problems with tape or from file server.
Bill Murray had to apologize.
Market leader, indeed.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
I notice that some of WSAZ news video has evidently been shot in widescreen mode
and then squished to 4by3. Possibly this is video shared by one of the nearby
Gray stations (Lexington, Hazard, Parkeesburg) with WSAZ.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
This whole format thing is a mess. Consistency is not an option when you're drawing from archive, stringer, studio and field stuff that is partially HD, SD 16x9 and 4x3. Just when you think you've got a plan some new scenario in the path or new equipment pops up. Plus after five up or down converts you're gonna get bite, just how and where? And believe me postage stamp is in everyones future no matter how hard we try.
I hold that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing. Thomas Jefferson, January 30, 1787.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
WSAZ has a freeze frame of the last OPRAH video up for the 5pm news.
They just popped up a bit of the west coast NBC feed. It was OK, audio and video.
Apparently they know something is amissAudio has crackling in it but is the correct audio.
Bill Murray must be watching other than off air as he is talking as usual.
MyZ seems to be normal.
Market leader, indeed.

Back now at 5:07 pm.
Had bad lip sync for a bit.
No word on whether they will run the lead stories again
or will just pretend it never happened.
Market leader, indeed.

WSAZ held off running any spots during the technical problems.
At least the viewers won't miss the commercials.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
The technical problems continued thru the 5 pm hour.
I did not watch after 6pm.
Kind of sounds like the lightning hit did a lot more damage than evident at the time.
Market stepped leader, indeed.

A story from WSAZ.com "The WebChannel"
"A SWAZI viewer snapped a photo of a cow walking along a busy U.S. 52 in Lawrence County, Ohio, Thursday afternoon. "
Apparently they don't proof this stuff either.
Market leader, indeed.

Am I to believe that the first NFL game of the year is not in High-Def, 16x9 format?
Is there something wrong with my tv set?

Re: WSAZ technical problems
This shit is simply amazing
At least in Cincinnati WLWT, Dayton WDTN, and Houston KPRC ( my son told me on the phone ).
It actually was a good looking HD presentation considering it came from Pittsburg.
In the old days of the "Market Leader", there would be a trash dumpster full if decapatated heads
and bodies for allowing that stuff to happen. Probilly why whey did ad trades for chain saws......
Made me glad I was at the Transmitter, at least that was a long and screwed up drive to come
all that way to cut my head off. It actually was a safe haven.

Re: WSAZ technical problems
In a semi-related note, comedian Mike Baldwin told a funny story about SAZ in our studio this morning. Apparently, he was there for a TV promo yesterday and he handed the achor a list of words that would lead him into jokes. Well, that's what was supposed to happen. Instead, the achor announced on the air that he had "this list of words". Then he proceeded to read the list and then turned to Mike and said: "What's funny about these words, Mike?". Mike's response: "Nothing, now!". Priceless!
That's clutch right there. . . . .

I can imagine the anchor telling friends about the guest that brought a stupid list of words that was supposed to be funny.
Aircheck? You'd make a great board op.
