Now, let's be fair, shall we? While it's amusing to think what might be represented in a photo, there's no way that we can say that Michelle was "looking jealously" at Carla. It's even more specious to suggest that women are "creatures fueled by jealousy and intrigue."

HOWEVER, to add my take on it, perhaps the caption should be:

Michelle: "Madame, Barack and I were wondering why the French don't bathe more often?"

If they actually earned it. Both of those women got to where they are by the man they married, did nothing on their own to get there.

Similarly, anyone think Hillary would have been a senator or secretary of state had she not married Bill and enabled all his affairs?

Palin is genuine. She earned her place and position on her own.

I worked as a secretary for a company with ALL women...about a staff of 50 or so and it was one of the best places I've ever worked. I've had at least FOUR women bosses and only had a slight problem with one but that was because she was a little off her rocker. Once I learned to deal with her "quarkiness" it was fine. I still keep in touch with her from time to time.


And don't underestimate Michelle Obama, she's a smart woman in her own right. As is Hillary Clinton. The both of them could run circles around many men in "power". How about Justice Ginsberg or Justice O'Connor? How did they get to the Supreme Court? By whom they married? Um..no.

However, I do believe in the glass ceiling. Literally and figuratively. No matter what we tell our girls when they are growing up that they are just as good as any man; once they hit the real world they will find out they are looked at differently because they are a woman. Its something I've learned the older I get. Maybe its a defeatest attitude but that's been my experience.

Interesting observation, and I agree. Women have a tougher time being accepted and advancing in many jobs, but there are a number of glass ceilings out there that I've either seen first hand or personally experienced. For example, not having a college education despite having more experience, or not being politically connected or having some kind of back room connection with the bosses and/or owners can be a career-staller in many places. Being from Appalachia, especially if you still carry the accent and espouse any kind of hometown pride can deadline career advancement if you leave our area for larger, white collar urban areas. Additionally, being a male in fields like nursing, crisis counseling, or elementary education can also have its own glass ceiling.

Exactly how many women did you interview for this statement? Perhaps it is something you heard while drooling over the format of the AM station you listen to. For those that DESPISE being managed by another woman, I suggest they don't let their ass hit them on their way out so somebody else can have a job.

I have worked for males bosses and I have worked for female ones. I actually found their respective abilities to lead enhanced by things other than their balls - or lack thereof. I must be in that small percentage that didn't mind when she was managed by another woman. How silly of me.

Since you like to group things, do ya' think that females who are paid more than their male counterparts are DESPISED by men? Should we all stay home and bake cookies and make babies? Is there some law that says women can't have the same rights as men?

I didn't vote for the Clintons, but did ya' ever think that Bill would not have been elected Prez were it not for the Mrs.? There are people who say that, you know.

Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion. I get that. Just try to mix some facts with the fiction.

I think it's true that the glass ceiling for women is lower in Appalachia than in other places, due to strong traditional values that still dominate the local culture. Never mind that single-earner households are no longer practical here or anywhere these days.

With that said, I've never seen so many men with "back problems" in one place... They let their women work while they lay around the house all day, and then still use the excuse that cooking and cleaning is "the woman's job".

But, I digress...

I disagree about the people who dare to stumble out of these hills and go to the "big city" to make something of themselves. Male or female, accent or none, if they have the qualifications, they do much better there than they will here, overall. When I lived in NoVA, I met quite a few West Virginians who still had the twang, but were well along in white collar/government jobs. Living it up in Suburbia with everyone else.

Please don't think you can't go anywhere else because you're "just a hillbilly". Too many people waste away here because they think they can't make it anywhere else.
